amazing deals here on refurb units.

I agree with Oliver, that the new lines are sounding even better.

Unfortunatly Integra is sold thru dealerships, they have some tweaks to them that make them slightly better units over the Onkyos, but for the most part they are nearly identical.

Fine Linear Optimum Gain Volume - yes
Independent Power supply - 2
32-Bit DSP Chip for Advanced Processing TI Aureas (x2)
Ultra-Low-Jitter Circuitry to Improve Audio Jitter Clean

I think this is what adds to the $200 higher list price. Other then that, Im not sure what else the differences are.

Default AVR for RC50

I have been breaking in my RC50 with my friends Marantz SR5005. Working very nicely. Now i intend to buy one AVR for myself. 60% Music / 40% Movies.

Options available are :
Marantz SR5005 ($755) / 1601 ($577) / PM6002($266)
Pioneer VSX-920($555) / 1020 ($711) / 1120 ($920), Elite models not available. LX Series available but way beyond budget ($1250 onwardS)
Onkyo SR608 ($775) / 708 ($1045)
havent read good reviews for yamaha much.

All the above mentioned prices are local prices so cant be compared to US prices. My question is
1. Is Marantz @ $755 the best bet as compared to others mentioned above. 2. Is Marantz 6002 ($266) for Music + Pioneer 920k ($555) for Movies is good option. Will PM6002 juice RC50 and would it be step up from SR5005?
3. Is onkyo 608 better than SR5005 given the same price range.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Will Marantz SR1601 (50wpc) juice RC50 for music same as SR5005 (100wpc).

for your speakers, I would go either the Marantz 5005 or the Onkyo 708.

Darshan,

How are you liking your 50s?

I wish I could swing a 5005, but I think i will wait till next year to see if they come down in price to make way for the newer models. I ended up buying a Yamaha 667 instead because I am a minimalist and did not need the features. I just needed good clean sound and pre-outs for an external amp. I had no idea how quickly I would get to utilize the pre-outs because I just recently jumped on an Emotiva UPA-5. got it at a pretty good deal. Amp will be coming in tomorrow and hoping to see what difference they will make with my 50s. Ended up paying less than $800 for the brand new receiver and amp.

The next receiver I get will probably be the 5005 as a pre/pro. I am no expert on receivers, but from your list of considerations, I would strongly consider the 5005. If you do get the 5005, I would love to get your impression with the 50s.

Good luck!

Well, some of you may know that I recently purchased a whole new 5.1 system consisting of energy speakers and a BIC F-12 sub. I knew I was going off to tech school in a few months but I had no idea how soon. I was hoping to have a couple months to play with my new speakers and set-up and so forth.

I just found out last friday that I will be leaving next monday the 14th of March for my retraining into Avionics. I am so stoked about the new career change. Will be learning even more about electrical systems that I am already in love with, but that's a whole nother story.

Well, one of my friends was very interested in my BIC F-12 so I was able to sell it to him for $170 which I bought for $184. Not too bad. I figured I won't be able to use it for five months and the sub I really want, the new PB-NSD12, will be out and I could just purchase that to round out the rest of my system.

My RC-Rs were both supposed to be here yesterday but I only got one speaker from UPS as opposed to two. The seller wanted to bound the two speaker boxes together and ship them as one package. I told him it was fine as long as they arrive without any complications. Well, now I have in my possession only one RC-R and there's an investigation on-going. I will most likely get a refund on the other RC-R and have to try my luck again with eBay for one.

All in all, I am loving these speakers so far. Sadly, I will have to wait another five months before I can finish setting up and breaking in all my speakers. On the bright side, I will have a dedicated living room for my home theater and I cannot wait to open them up with my UPA-5 that's on the way.

Thanks for your input Olivier and Steve. Also, thanks for that link Olivier. I like the looks of that Onkyo 808 as it has a little more power than the 708, and $500 is around my price range. I think I had paid around 8 something for my current receiver back in the 90's.

808 is 600$ but well worth the extra $ IMO.

I have had the 50s for about two weeks and totally broken in. I am totally loving it. I have had the LCR for about a week and had about 20 hours played through it. I went ahead and boxed it up and stored it away until I come back from tech school. It is a nice sounding channel and I hope it opens up a bit more after some play time. I <3 Energy Speakers!

Miker,

UPS called today and said they will not come to do an inspection because it was a bundled package. Meaning, the shipper shouldn't have duct taped the two boxes together. It does suck for the seller. Since I opened up the one LC-R to see that it wasn't a dead on arrival, I will keep it and get a refund for the other one I didn't receive. I will just keep an eye out on eBay to find me another one. I just hope the refund process goes smoothly. This experience just helps to affirm my reservations for buying big ticket items on eBay, even though eBay is not really to blame for this one.

I placed an order for the 808 about a month back for $664 dollars and I thought that was a great deal. That was to run my set of Energy Take 5 Classics. I determined that the 808 was way more receiver than the classics needed so I ended up canceling the order. Pretty happy with the yammy 667 and waiting for my UPA-5.

Opps, you're correct. It's the 708 that is 500. Thanks for the correction.
But yea, I think the extra 100 is worth it. I'm almost tempted to order it but I still haven't started working yet. I wish they would hurry up..

I am loving my RC50's. Thanks to all the guys on this forum for giving honest and excellent reviews without which i wouldnt risk of importing my RC's from US to India.

About RC50, all i can say is Music has become entirely new dinemsion for me. Never heard such detailing and depth earlier. I have started listening to my entire old collection and every song i listen with RC50 makes me realize that i was been listening to some crap till such time.

Sometimes i borrow my fiends SR5005 and RC50 sounds very nice, accurate and detailed. Just cannot believe the bass it produces in my 225 SFT room. Initially thought that sub is producing the bass. Had to switch off the sub's main switch to believe my ears.

iPod connectivity through front USB port is just unbelievable. Just played iPod with Pure Direct Mode and sound is fantastic. Even better than my dedicated LG CD Player. Highly recommended if anyone has SR5005, dont forget to switch on Pure Direct Mode. (Not Direct Mode)

Wondering how RC50 will sound with an Integrated AMP. Share your reviews on Emotiva UPA-5 once you recevie them.

Default RC Mini Center vs RC LCR

I am looking for a Center Speaker for my RC50 in a 16 X 10 size room.

I am not form US and locally getting RC Mini Center for $280 and RC LCR for $650. If i import from US, it will be $710. Is RC LCR worth paying $370 extra locally? I can get a sub in that price range. Please suggest.

Even if you pay 369$ off ebay?

all I can say is to match the rc-mini with the RC-50 to me is wishfull thinking, it will sound small next to them and the transition won't be a seamless as you would like it to be. You will also have to raise the gain like 3 db on the center to match the volume of the rc-50.

The LCR is well worth it's asking price in this case.

I haven't listened to a variety of different brand of speakers, but I started from a C-C50 and thought I was happy with it until I upgraded to the C-C100. I thought I was all set until I went ahead and did a full front stage upgrade a month ago, and the RC-LCR is a big step above the C-C100!

Imagine if I used the LCR as a front speaker.

I was considering getting an Emotiva upa2 to power my energy cf50's and just let the receiver power the center (cc10) I have a pioneer vsx 1120-k. Do you think I will hear a considerable improvement in sound quality? I really want the xpa3 but, it won't fit in my current set up or budget. Do you think the upa2 would be worth the $400?
