Any idea about ideal sub settings on sub itself and crossovers on receiver? Energy take classic 5.1 and onkyo with THX select 2.

Take classic are 115hz-20Khz so 120 should be fine for them, I assume you have the sub that comes with the Take Classic, well LFE signal and channel information that would normally go to each channel below the x-over point should go directly to the sub so make sure the sub x-over is set at maximum level and if it has a bypass switch then use the bypass switch on it.

As for Audissey, it is known to be one of the best room correction software, ok you may not have the latest or greatest version but it should achieve a good job.

Appreciate it bud. Been playing around and tweaking the levels this weekend. Watched Gravity first time since Imax and I was amazed again. Haha. Excellent audio show off material IMO.

Just upgraded my system and added the CB-10 to my fronts. My system now is the Harmon Kardon AVR 1700, Atlantic Technology 2400C center speaker, Energy CB-10s for the front speakers, Monoprice Take Classic knock-offs for the surrounds and the BIC F-12 for my sub. The fronts and surrounds are wall mounted in the room corners towards the ceiling and toed in and down slightly.

I have to say, right out of the box the CB-10s are pretty impressive. These babies sound a lot bigger than they look and they compliment the surrounds a lot better than I thought they would. A couple of years ago, I had some Polk Audio floor towers and these sound way better than them - more balanced and open sounding. I had read reviews that they sounded a little boomy, but I set the crossovers at 80hz and they sound fine without sounding overdriven. In fact the bass is strong, but well defined and not sloppy at all. It will be interesting to see how they sound once they break-in since most owners report between 40 and 100 hours are needed to get optimal sound.

Any other CB-10 owners out there with opinions?

If I wanted to upgrade my speakers. I think the only thing I would replace would be my RC-30 towers to the RC-70 towers. Rare, and pretty expensive though :/

If I ever had to upgrade my fronts. I wouldn't even know where to begin to be honest. I thought about matching my rear surrounds with the RC line since I'm still using the C-50 model as rear surrounds but I really don't think I would notice the difference.

I was looking at the RC line myself, but when I went to Fry's the salesman said that they no longer had them in stock and were being discontinued. I don't know if that's true or not (probably not), but I happened to see CB-10s on sale online at a different retailer and picked these up instead. I've seen reviews that the RC-10s are superior in sound to the CB-10s, but for my setup, they sound better than what I expected and definitely much better than what I had, so I'm a happy camper.

The RC line is discontinued, but there are places online that still sell them new/used. It's just rare. I was at Best Buy and they have the CF series out on display, but never bothered listening to them because it will be tempting.

Like you, I'm happy and pleased with my setup. I just can't see buying speakers (fronts) anytime soon unless something terrible happens. My only regret is that I bought the smaller RC towers back in 2010-2011 when stores had the RC series in stock. I should of just spent the few hundred more and buy the RC-70, but then again the speakers would be overkill for a medium size room

If I won the Lotto and had a room that would be a dedicated theater, I would love to go nuts.....
But, the room I have my AV system in is our family room and my wife hates to look at speakers and equipment, so I've compomised with her on the current system (which by the way she still hates to look at). Luckily, she hasn't noticed yet that I upgraded the speakers he-he

Haha nice that she hasn't noticed the change.

When we bought our house over the summer.... I took dibs on the office room and turned it into my little man cave. My wife can have the 55 inch with no surround sound in the living room for the mean time. I just turn the volume up on my receiver and she has to use closed captioning because she can't hear her shows just to piss her off.

Later on in the future though, the C-series bookshelf speakers, and C-100 center that's sitting in one of my closets will be back in use once I get a new receiver to upgrade for my room and then moving my older AVR to the living room for a 3.1 setup.

As you can see... I'll still be sporting the Energy brand for more years to come

Unhappy

Well, things have changed quite a bit since my last post.

My first order of concern, is the burning smell from the top port on my RC-70's
They still sound awesome, no static, everything seems normal. Did I do damage to the tweeter? I ran them pretty hard for about 3 hours, all kinds of music, then the last 30 min this thick burning smell filled our large front room, I'm hoping I didn't damage the tweeters. I have started a warranty with Klipsch, to see if I can't get tweeters shipped to me.

What do you guys think about the smell. It somewhat smells like capacitor burn in. But it is a strong odor, and from my experience, speakers should not have this strong of a smell, ever. I'm thinks g I may have fried something..:

HELP!!!

OK, new poster here. Been running a 2.0 setup for a while now with a pair of Pioneer BS21's. While they're really not too bad, I've found myself desiring more, and have been looking at speakers for two weeks now.

Today, I hopped on New3gg, and found some Energy's I hadn't looked at before. Found an open-box pair of CB-20's for $99, and a CC-5 center for $69. I bought 'em.

So now that I am soon to be the owner of these, with very high hopes, I want to hear from owners of these specific speakers! Any tips on running them, subs they pair well with, etc.

I took a chance and bought them because I know the Energy name, and they've been getting good reviews. Never had a chance to hear them in person. I may use the Pioneers as rears, might pickup some more Energy's to match instead.

Will be driving them with a Yamaha HTR-3067. It'll drive the Pioneers pretty well at 6 ohm 84db sensitivity, so I'm sure it'll handle the Energys without issue.

For the price you could not get a better deal really, While not the best speakers, those speakers are really good and you got what you can call best bang for the buck. I would x-over at 70hz if considering the +/-3 db point on center and CB-20 65hz and 60hz if your receiver allows for increments of 10 if not then go 80hz, THX recommend 80Hz anyways, as for Sub-woofer, well is it strictly for HT use?

Are you looking to get a sub?

Budget for the sub?

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to see if i can get a little bit of help.

I just purchased some speakers to complete a 5.1 setup after a co-worker gave me two satellites and the subwoofer from the take classic.

I purchased a CC-5 Center, and Two CB-10 bookshelf. and I bought the pioneer Elite VSX-90.

I am unsure of what i put my crossover setting at when i ran the mccac on the receiver it told me my fronts were large and set the crossover to 150, from everything i read this seems wrong. would switching everything to small and setting it to 80 be better?

thanks for any help

I think your take classic don't go as low as 80hz so you would have a hole of almost 35hz between 80hz and 115hz, does your Elite allow setting x-over for each pair of speakers or is it a global x-over? In the case you have a global x-over which I think you do from your Elite manual, you would have no choice to choose 115hz or above.

I would set all speaker to small and go for 125hz since the take classic are satellite speakers and actually do have a frequency response of 115-20 000hz at +/3db from what I see on the Energy website. The CC-5 and CB 10 don't go low enough to set them to large, I would recommend 125hz if you wish to override MCCAC, 150hz recommendation.

I have a SVS PB1000 coming within the next few weeks.

I have the CC-5 center and CB-10s for my fronts and I love it so far, you can get these for pretty cheap right now.

At the price they go for you cannot find better honestly. Your center should match fronts as closely as possible so I would go CC-10 and CB 10 if possible, why not complete the 5.1 with 4 CB-10 with a CC-10 as long as you can find one or else get the CC-5 center?
