I'd lke to know - what's more important in PC audio, the bits (i.e. remaining Bit-Perfect) or the room itself? IMHO - the room trumps the bits. When I had my receiver - I originally set my PC to output bit perfect via HDMI to my receiver and let the receiver apply its processing.
Now that I'm now longer in a bit-perfect world (i.e. my PC applies DSP to my bits before sending them out analog) - I find that treatments and room correction/dsp are more important to me than remaining bit-perfect. This is just a matter of preference - due to fact that a room can be difficult. Even if your bits are perfect - your enviornment distorts your final sound. (I believe all of our enviornments are some what distorted ....house sound, speaker voicing, and particular preference all play a factor). Getting the music right for me has become my major priority - and I could go back to bit perfect even with my present setup (but I would have to use an external EQ/Crossover/Bass Management) but that's unecessary. I'm satisfied with what I'm presently getting. Chime in - what's more important in Computer audio to you? |
