Sound quality wise is not amazing but better then the motherboard sound. It is usb powered and has optical in and out. Two, two channel outs and surround analog out. Nice that I can plug one two channel into my preamp and one into my headphone amp. So nice options. But, sound quality? Meh.
Oh okay cool, now I understand and that is a pretty cool device. One of my buddies picked up the Arcam Rdac and he is very happy with it.

Which logitech system do you have, I just sold my z5500 set for 150.00 I used to setup with my Mac Pro. I like listening to 2 channel so it was kind of a waste for me but the guy I sold it to loves multichannel music.

Haha, same, I had the z5500 as well. I moved into the bedroom for a while but it took up too much room. I am loaning it out long term to the youth group at my church. I thought it sounded pretty good for computer speakers. Did pretty well as a back up surround sound setup too. Listening to it for music? Wouldn't recommed it. Course that's all opinion. If all you had was HTiB stuff, that setup might blow it away.

As far as a DAC I am looking at something used like a Schiit Bifrost or CA Dacmagic. New I might spring for the Modi but the Dragonfly DAC looks pretty appealing.

Yeah the guy I sold it to uses it for HTIB and he loves the Z55oo. I got rid of it because I listen to a lot of music when I am on my computer.

Good luck in your search for a DAC and please let us know what you end up with.

Hey Jim, if ever you're looking for a stop gap solution, you might want to give this a look, the Emu 0204 USB $115, free shipping and it has a fairly well received DAC chip, the AK4396.

I highly doubt you can find something as good under $200, if not more. Being a past E-Mu owner, I can attest that they implement their DACs well. Only thing is the outputs are 1/4, not RCA, but that's an easy solution. When you think about it, what is there to lose.

I'm on pause with that for a bit. I'm planning on picking up a pair of Sennheiser Momentums for fathers day. I had bought some UE 6000s but they had a bad connection so I returned them. I'm taking that plus the extra for fathers day to get some nice sealed headphones for travel on the bus and at work.

I have a pair of Focal XS Books connected to a Calyx DAC with an Analysis Plus USB cable as well as Analysis Plus Interconnects. This all being connected to a 21.5" Imac.

Also have a pair of Yamaha HPH-200 Headphones

The Focals sound great for their size! ( They are not my Cantons tho )

I've got an Asus Xonar DX soundcard outputting to an Outlaw RR2150 Amp used as a headphone amp right now through RCA interconnects. Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones currently but looking into Sennheiser HD598's.
