My only complaint about Dr No is the props department, specifically guns. After M and Boothroyd criticise Bond's Beretta he surrenders an M1934 model which actually fired a better cartridge than the PPK. In the book he has a nasty little Beretta 418 (In From Russia With Love Daniela Bianchi shoots Rosa Klebb with a 418). After they give Bond the lecture on the PPK they promptly give him a larger PP which he uses for the rest of the film except when he kills Dent and it turns into an FN 1910 because the prop PP couldn't take a fake silencer. Before killing him Bond tells Dent "That's a Smith and Wesson and you've had your six", it's a seven (or eight if you reload the mag) shot 1911 and defintely not a Smith and Wesson.
The gun barrel at the start is a .357 Smith and Wesson model 27. |

Somehow I have forgotten how to properly post a YouTube video on the forum, but I was actually quoting a movie.

That moment in Dr. NO when Bond shot the character Dent... twice, while Dent was unarmed and helpless, was the instance that the James Bond "mojo" was born.
I'm convinced that without that cold-blooded action by 007, which must have jolted a 1960's theater audience, the franchise would never have achieved the success it eventually realized. |

Eight minutes into rewatching Dr. No, I stopped and remuxed it with only the optional mono and commentary. Waiting right now for it to finish before I start over. The ambience of the 5.1 just feels weird for a movie of this time. Does the 4K iTunes have the mono? Says, "English (United Kingdom) (Dolby 5.1, Stereo, CC)." Annoying that the mono is only 112 Kbps per channel. It sounds rough. Small and kind of shrill.

I don't have a ton of Bond viewing experiences, but gave Dr. No a spin last night - I enjoyed it. Really hope this comes to UHD BD at some point although despite the Lowry frozen grain mess at times, the image held up projected much better than I would have initially guessed. I was shocked of that completely nude Ursula quick moment especially for a 1962 film! With that said, I am more familiar with Austin Powers and can see where so many of the antics were derived from.
