Live and Let Die has a great theme song, but everything else in that film didn't work for me...

Certain films may not work for certain individuals (at times one has to be in the right mood for a particular film) but there is no garbage Bond film.

Talking about LALD, it is among the most fun Bond films w/ many memorable segments such as Bond in NY (the taxi ride from Airport), Snake in the shower, Bond giving Mrs. Bell a flying lesson, Bond's escape from the reptiles, The Boat Chase, etc.

The interesting characters include Solitaire and villains that work well as a group (a concept also seen in films such as OP & TLD). The background score is among the best non-Barry ones.

There is also a book by Roger Moore (the 007 Diaries) that focuses on his experience shooting this film. When adjusted for inflation, this is Moore's biggest hit (and therefore also among the biggest Bond hits).

Well, in the books, Fleming describes Blofeld as having undergone plastic surgery, presumably to avoid being captured. So it makes a certain amount of sense that the Blofeld actor kept changing.

Ironically Connery said years later that OHMSS is exactly the kind of Bond film he wanted to make

To each their own. My least favorite is Moonraker. It just felt to me like they made a mockery out of "Jaws", but hey it's probably someone else favorite.

I agree that no Bond film is garbage... although a couple sail perilously close (looking at you No Time to Die and Never Say Never Again).

I didn't care for Live and Let Die on the whole but it has its moments.

OHMSS is a tough one for me because there's some TERRIFIC stuff in there, primarily the action, and I've never minded Lazenby as 007 (it's always gonna be tough sandwiched in between such charismatic actors as Connery and Moore). John Barry's music is also great.

However, there are MAJOR problems with the picture than I can't ignore. Of all the Bonds this one comes off as the most amateurish, at times like a Euro-pudding knock-off. The plot is frankly incomprehensible, the scenes at Piz Gloria with Bond wandering around in a kilt and with someone else's voice are interminable. Also, as good as Diana Rigg is, the secondary Bond lass (Angela Scoular) is possibly the series' worst.

The plot isn’t that difficult to follow. Bond is after Blofeld. He makes a bargain with Draco for his location. Then goes undercover as Sir Hillary Bray. In the course of his investigation he uncovers Blofeld’s scheme to blackmail (biological warfare) world governments ($$$), not be charged and have his Title of Count Balthazar de Bleuchamp formally recognized.

Yeah, that's still a load of piffle, IMHO.

Maybe it worked better in the novel?

Under-cranking the camera filming car chases works as it makes the cars look faster than they are really going. It can be transparent to the viewer.

But using this technique in fighting scenes, it just looks silly and unprofessional. That whole fight on the beach -

Well, maybe quality isn’t your thing? It’s ok. There’s always Disney.

Or, try the book It may help.

The book and the movie are like 90% the same. I'd actually put it in the top 5 Bond films for that reason alone

I thought the fight scenes were exciting, some of the best in the series.

This movie is one that grew on me. When I was a kid I thought it was pretty boring, but as an adult it's a far better movie than I ever gave it credit for.

Honestly top 5 of the Bond movies for me.

Nail on the head.

The younger team hasn’t grown out of their masked spandex heroes. It may never happen due to their cult like devotion to a studio. This and other films of distinction will be waiting.

oh oh.. top 5 Bond movie posts coming....

you know, as much as I love this series I have a hard time myself picking a top 5...

I would go with

Goldfinger (Connery at the top of his game)
OHMSS (the most emotionally effective of the entire series)
The Spy Who Loved Me (Moore at the top of his game)

and then it already becomes difficult---

contenders would be

Skyfall
Live And Let Die
Goldeneye
Thunderball
Casino Royale
