So when it doesnt come to pass...he's kind of left looking like a buffoon. Most people have long seen through this. Back in the heyday of home video he was connected. But we are long past that, and hes just trying to hang on.

More responsible reporting would be something like "Well, here we go again. James Cameron for the 50th time has said it coming in an interview. This just right after he said no later than March. What a mess. Nobody seems to know what the heck is going on, and you shouldn't believe a word this guy says. But I am just passing it along for those who missed it and for which hopes springs eternal. Is it coming. Probably? Maybe? But I have nothing else to offer you except that I am with you and hope it's coming."

studios are announcing 4k releases at the moment for end of March so surely we should hear something soon but wont hold my breathe - i dont know why Cameron & 4k is such a hold up - i get that the guy is busy promoting AWOW but werent these HD masters completed months ago ? surely NOW is the time what with everyone going mad over avatar ???

I don´t know if it has been posted before, but there was a Q&A with The Abyss´s DP Mikael Salomon back in 2019. They watched The Abyss in 70mm. I wish I could have been there:-(

I don't think Cameron wants True Lies to get a new release. I suspect that he regrets doing it in the first place for reasons that I probably shouldn't go into on here. There are jokes and things that reflect another era in which he doesn't want to have in his films now. He is weaker version of SS now. It is making him a lot of money at the moment. His movies are so pandering now. His simpleton pandering and the whole bloated nature of his films now just rubs me the wrong way.

He actually posts that kind of stuff on twitter twice, once from his personal account, and another from his Digital Bits account.

That being said, the only thing more depressing than not having The Abyss on 4K is watching this forum constantly rag on James Cameron and Bill Hunt

It's not that Bunt is a bad person, it's more to do with his 21st century irrelevance as his "deep bench" of industry sources is a bad joke at this point - through no fault of his own, I might add - and his technical knowledge is significantly flawed, not that someone isn't allowed to get things wrong but it's when their followers accept it as gospel that it makes me do a sad.

He rarely posts any actual 'scoops' for new releases, and by that I mean news that actually beats anyone else to the punch, as people on forums like this one are constantly scoping out retail listings for new titles and getting there ahead of Bunt's "deep bench" of retail sources by a day or two. Hell, most of the time he even says that it's Bits readers who are informing him OF these retail listings. He might get one or two of his own, sure, but even that DiscFather douchnozzle has proven to have had more reliable contacts than him. About the only thing he does keep insisting is coming is The Abyss and True Lies, which he's been doing for like a decade or whatever. I'm sure he'll be "proven" right eventually.

As for tech knowledge, he's obsessed with "master interpositives" being part of the modern transfer process (that's generally a no) and the outright lie that the LOTRs and Hobbitses were rebuilt in 4K is a stain on his reputation quite frankly. He was fed that information, sure, or perhaps misinterpreted it himself, as nowhere else does it say they were rebuilt, not even in the Warners press blurb for those releases, but that he doesn't have the wit to challenge that orthodoxy is just mind blowing to me. For someone regarded as a Blu-ray tech guru he does a lot of guessing and incorrect interpretation and blatant 'made it up himself' kinds of comments.
