Hitachi has just announced the first Blu-ray video camera that can record directly to Blu-ray and will also be full 1080p. One will be a Blu-ray only the other will be a Blu-ray and HDD combo. Should be pretty cool. Not due until September or October, I would think Sony can't be too far behind, although they seem pretty committed to AVCHD units at the moment. I have one and it is awesome.

My PS3 is a slot loading "computer" and it plays my mini-DVDs just fine, has no problem with them. I guess if your iMac does its just another form over function design limitation of an Apple product. But my guess is they'll load fine.

A true 1080p video camera is VERY expensive. I don't think it's consumer affordable right now period Quote:

I have the Sony HDR-SR1 HDD camcorder and its awesome. Since I am using an iMac (intel), I use Final Cut Pro 6 to edit all of my footage. Apple has been a big supporter of Blu-Ray and the new avchd codec. Unfortunately, to edit avchd in Final Cut, you need to convert the footage to a quicktime format which means up to 5 times the amount of space. Just get a 500GB hdd and you should be fine. If anyone needs help with handling avchd on Macs, feel free to contact me.
P.S. The new iMovie in iLife 08 now supports native avchd editing. Gotta love Apple ![]() |

My Sony DSLR takes pictures 3872x2592. All the still pictures in HD comment means is they are at least 1080. |

I have a canon HDV (A1), and all I can say is OUCH. A 1080P camcorder is hideously expensive. Remember, 720P camcorders are incredibly expensive... and 1080P is always more. Though yes, both are actually on the market. Just be aware, a nice new car might be a more reasonable choice")

I have Sony's HDR-UX7 (the 8cm DVD disks)
I get 27-29 minutes on each Dual Layer Sony disc. I am a "very" amateur video person for vacations, kids events, etc so I don't mind the DVD format which I can pop right into my PS3 and play in HD which looks great in med to high light conditions but the grain appears in darker situations mainly due to the CMOS sensor being so sensitive with the 3.2 the UX5 has a lower sensor but has better dark performance .. I can delete unwanted scenes and even convert to mpeg2 dvd quality as I am sure everyone knows and then edit it from there for relatives. i don't think I would ever buy a Blu-Ray camcorder until it hits the $1000-$1500 price points because to most average older people who'll you'll be showing your footage to even if they have a blu-ray player they wont' have a gigantic screen that can show a measurable difference between 1080i and 1080p. I'll stick with my 1080i UX7 for now hehe. Even though its only 1440x1080 close enough to 1920x1080 for me. Last edited by timer00; 11-25-2007 at 10:12 PM. |

I just bought a sony ux7 and recorded and finalized my first hi-def blu-ray disc. It plays fine when the camcorder is hooked up to hi-def tv but will not play in samsung Bd-P1000 blu-ray player. I have latest firmware upgrade (v.1.3). It recognizes the disc but not the recording. Any suggestions?

Canon's spec says that it is a full 1080 recorder at 24p. And not that expensive.
