Default Blu-ray Region Coding Not Used?

I stopped by the Bluray booth at CES and one of the conversations I had was with a fellow from Panasonic. Bluray Region Coding came up in our conversation and he said that it was his understanding that none of the studios have been using the bluray region codes yet and that the blurays that have been released so far are region code free. Has anyone else heard this or know if this is true?

Many release have been released for "All Regions". However, most new releases, i.e. not catalog titles have a region. For example Disney's Ratatouille, since it was released in the US on Blu-ray while it was still in theaters overseas it was encoded for region A/1 only.

Fox, Disney, and Sony have used region codes. Check this out...

FYI... There is a whole thread on this in the Movies and Releases Forum.

67.71% of currently released Blu-rays are region free. The issue is decided on a studio by studio basis. New Line for instance region codes all their new releases to protect their international theatrical distribution partners. Fox is probably the one studio most active with region coding.
