Well, to be fair. Only alchav21 has made those claims, but only if you’re hard wired In all seriousness, Wendell and a few others probably have the tech knowledge to answer your questions.

In each one of these comparisons, the streaming versions can look plenty acceptable. But none of them come close to Blu-ray. I'm curious to see exactly what compression parameters the streaming providers are using as people keep pushing this myth that they keep improving the compression all the time or this 'adaptive' compression that compresses less with better internet connection. If that was true, I should be getting the exact same as Blu-ray over my 200mbps connection.
Streaming quality has been stagnant since 2015. Same codecs, same anemic bitrates. Vudu streams 4K content at 15 Mbps, Netflix streams 4K content at 16 Mbps, Amazon is comparable, and only Apple's 4K TV streams 4K content as high as 30 Mbps. Their HD bitrates are far lower; Netflix streams high definition content at just under 6 Mbps.

To provide some contrast, the maximum bitrate of a blu-ray disc is 48 Mbps with averages near 40 Mbps being very common. A 100 GB capacity 4K disc has a maximum bitrate of 128 Mbps with averages in the range of 80-90 Mbps being common.

Adaptive streaming, ironically, often adjusts the bitrate downwards to accommodate slower internet connections or deteriorating network conditions. No matter how fast your internet connection is, those bitrates listed in my first paragraph and in the first linked article are the most that you are going to receive from those providers. Streaming is very highly compressed and the resultant compression artifacts are often quite obvious.

Streaming does look "plenty acceptable" and that is why I still subscribe to such services, but discs offer the best quality by every objective measure.

Like a lot of people, I split between streaming and physical. For the movies I love the most = a lot of horror and science fiction - I get physical, especially when there are a lot of extras involved that will probably never be released through streaming. Most of the 4K titles I buy are catalog titles. I stream 4k through Apple, Netflix, Amazon, and Vudu, but even to a non-expert like me the physical media PQ is definitively better.

Here's a little fact check for you. You have not been a member of this forum "since the beginning." You have been a member since April 2011. I have been a member since September 2011. Some of our members date back to 2006. Wendell is one such member having been here since September 2006. He can make that claim, but not you.

Incidentally, The Donster has more seniority here than you do; he has been a member since December 2010. Alchav has more seniority than either of you, having been a plague, er, a member, here since April 2009.

Now about those prolific posts: The Donster, who has been here longer than you, has posted 8337 times. You have posted 22,944 times.

The Donster doesn't actually post here, in this thread, that often.

I hate to tell you this but , I think maybe it's your breath that keeps him away.
