I have seven Region B Blu-ray titles and the only one that works on this Panasonic is my Australian version of Edge of Tomorrow.

Where was this $150? I bought it like a week or two before the post date at a higher price due to my expiring reward cert. So, if I can do a price match...or maybe I have to wait until it goes down again and I'm still within my return window.

Yes, this time I don't sleep on and place the order on Crutchfield.

Also other two models down:

DP-UB420 $150
DP-UB820-K $350
DP-UB9000 $900

but at least for me the UB420 is enough, I'll upgrade later in two years, maybe Oppo come back (my hope ).

Some more Region B data points from a just arrived UK order. The UB-420 was able to override the regional lockouts on The Prisoner series (released by Network), Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (BBC), and the Werner Herzog collection (BFI).

Unfortunately it won't play 576i50 extras, unless your tv supports 50Hz signals. If your TV is only 60hz, it will pair a black screen with the audio track.

Last edited by mjjckc; 12-02-2020 at 12:35 AM. Reason: New 50Hz friendly TV offers different data point

The UB150 is on sale for $99. Basically the same as the 420 for HDR, HDR10 and 3D.. Just has no apps.but there are more than enough alternatives for that. Great deal for those looking just for disc playback.

I got my unit today, I really like the size, compact and well made.

Now I'm going to try the Region B control "hack" (based on previous comments).

First test, the "hack" works with one region B Indicator movie "The Border". Great!

Good news is that every Region B Arrow disc I've tried on this player has worked with the Top Menu trick. Unfortunately the new 'Dawn of the Dead' set that just came out does not work with the bonus extras disc.

I don't lose the Region B "feature hack" after update to the latest firmware?

I'll check the version that I have out of the box tomorrow, I'll go to sleep now.

I have this player, just popped in Arrow The Thing, nothing happened, just the "UHD" screen, nothing else, no message about the disc's region or anything. Firmware is routinely updated; I take it the remote trick doesn't work anymore?

The trick works on most Panasonic players. Whether it works or not is down to how the disc itself is authored. The message about incorrect region is a screen on the disc and not generated by the player and some discs do not have it. If you get the blank screen just press the stop button (once) and then the top menu button and you should be good to go. Most arrow/studio canal/criterion discs should work.

Just tried with ARROW THE THING and my 820.

No region lock menu, just went opening player screen just like if there was no disc in the tray.
Stop and Top Menu 1st time it did nothing. I pressed Top Menu a second time and the disc loaded .

Ejected and tried again, exact same thing. The disc loaded only after teh second press of TOP MENU. It's not the first disc I've tried that required more than one push

That trick works on most Panasonic players. I use it all the time on my UB9000. Depending on the disc sometimes it takes a few tries or won't work at all. Most of the time it plays it though. Don't buy one of these expecting it to be a region free player it ain't. Buy it thinking I might be able to play that Region B Blu-ray if I feel like it after a little remote trickery.

There are a few Arrow discs that do this. The 2013 Tenebre release and the 2018 City of the Living Dead come to mind. My old Panasonic Blu-ray player behaves the same way. Maybe they authored them without the usual Region-B warning altogether?

Thanks for the replies, I'm seriously looking into a Multi-Region player, plus I have several CZ DVDs.
