http://notonbluray.com/blog/the-case-of-se7en/ Essentially the LDs and first DVD use the same custom graded 480i master done back in the day to look like CCE release prints. So the cheap standard version or very first DVD will suffice unless you want the Criterion box. Later masters were made and each has its quirks. |

One of my favorite documentaries, the 1992 IMAX film Titanica, has yet to get a proper DVD or Blu-ray release.
![]() It did get a DVD release in 1998, but it is a truncated, heavily edited version narrated by Leonard Nimoy. (Original was narrated by Cedric Smith). The original theatrical version only exists on LaserDisc and VHS. Considering it is the second feature length IMAX film produced, I think it would be a stunning looking Blu-ray or even 4K release. One can dream ![]() The Dolby Surround track at least still sounds immensely satisfying. |

Song of the South was released on LaserDisc in Japan but never officially released on DVD or Blu-ray.
It was never even released on home video in the US. There is an upcoming legal Spanish Blu-ray but it's a grey market public domain release. |

The original version of the original Star Wars trilogy. These films were included as bonus features on the 2004 DVD releases but I hear they actually look worse than the original LaserDisc releases. I happen to have the 1993 Definitive Collection which has nine CAV discs. The end of Side 5 and all of Side 6 of each contain bonus material.

The US cut of The Big Blue has only been available on VHS and Laserdisc. I prefer this version over the 2 international cuts that are on blu-ray.

And as for naming a movie from my collection that was released on LD but never on DVD or Blu-Ray, I'm pretty sure the 1988 Tina Rathborne movie ZELLY & ME with Isabella Rossellini and David Lynch remains LD- and VHS-only; I have the '88 RCA/Columbia NTSC full-frame LaserDisc version of this. Lynch must have enjoyed working on this movie since he later asked Rathborne to direct a couple of episodes of Twin Peaks. Last edited by TheMGR; 02-02-2022 at 06:47 AM. |

![]() ![]() UP YOUR ALLEY - Not available on DVD or Blu-ray ![]() WYATT EARP: EXTENDED EDITION - The 190 minute theatrical cut has been available on both DVD and Blu-ray, but the 212 minute extended/director's cut hasn't been available since VHS and LD. ![]() THE UNIVERSAL STORY - A two hour documentary hosted by Richard Dreyfuss about the history of Universal Pictures. ![]() STAR WARS TRILOGY: 1977-1983 ORIGINAL THEATRICAL CUTS - While I understand the Definitive Editions aren't the 100% true theatrical cuts, it's the closest image for a complete trilogy box set available to use as an example. In a more perfect world, we would get the original 1977-1983 theatrical cuts of the original Star Wars Trilogy, including the original retro making of documentaries. I know that film as that meme Club Penguin in Vietnam movie, but it’s actually based on an early Konami MSX game (which is also the very first game to have involvement from La Creatividad himself Hideo Kojima).
The first game to be actually lead, written and directed by Kojima would be Metal Gear 1, though. |
