Thought episode 6 was fantastic.

Must admit, I had a tear in my eye towards the end of this one. Not just because of the obvious fan service/member-berries, but because this was the first time in all of nuTrek that it actually felt like Trek that belonged in the same universe as the classic shows.

It's hard to see how this doesn't end with a Titan spin-off or something akin, as the new characters this season; Jack, Shaw, La Forge (Jr) are golden, and taking Seven, and the Titan, you have the basis for a good show already, with lots of good will in place from this season of Picard. It feels very similar to when people were clamoring for a Pike/Spock/Number One spin-off after they went down well in season 2 of Discovery.

We've had Wesley and Guinan back in previous seasons, and together with this season's cameos we've seen most of the cast return now, but it would be great to round it out by having Reg and O'Brien turn up at some point. Tasha too, somehow.

4 episodes to go.

Great episode. Loads of nostalgia & fun little details. Slightly disappointed they didn't nick the Bird of Prey to use for the rest of the season. Love that ship.

Thought the
[Show spoiler]Kirk
easter egg was nicely timed to (nearly) coincide with
[Show spoiler]Shatner's birthday
the day after broadcast.

The appearance of
[Show spoiler]the Genesis device
put a massive smile on my face.

It's not the Changelings. That's too obvious, they're just the henchmen.

But for the Borg being a big thing in season 2, I'd have said the Borg. Stealing Picard's body to somehow reanimate it and resurrect Locutus 2.0.

As it is, I honestly have no idea. I can't see it NOT being a classic TNG villain, but there aren't many of them unaccounted for. Conspiracy aliens maybe....

And the Borg we be a letdown for me anyway. Maybe I'm just forgetting some long lost adversary.

Perhaps Chief Engineer Argyle after he got replaced by LaForge! Or Commander Shelby who never got a command because Riker stole her thunder in BoBW.
I don't think there's any classic big bads left to pop up

Just caught up and oh mai, this is so much fun. Folk may keep clamouring for another TNG movie but apart from the (still) slightly plasticky CG for the ships this IS the next TNG movie, it’s just got that big screen feel to it. I’m not sure what more people could want from it at this point. Constitution class 4 life yo

The way they kept banging on about how the whole fleet will be in one place for Frontier Day and now this revelation that all modern ships are networked together means without a doubt some kind of virus/code will be deployed which disables the entire fleet and our heroes will turn up with these older ships to defend who they can whilst they deploy whatever solution Geordie and Data will have come up with to get the fleet back online.
[Show spoiler]
The ships being networked together and being taken out by a virus is pretty much Battlestar Galactica, but then I guess season 1 was pretty similar to that too with the synths.

Obviously the fleet being gathered together is a bad idea and that is the main goal of whomever is in charge. We know Picard is supposed to give a speech there so presumably they stole Picard's body to impersonate him for the speech, but presumably they wouldn't need his body for that so I'm missing the bigger picture here.

Vadic obviously has impunity in Federation space since she shows up at Daystrom and seemingly commands 3 Federation ships. It's impossible for everyone to be compromised, so you have to wonder what the rest of starfleet thinks about this. She's seemingly also some sort of Changeling hybrid though, with them infecting host bodies.

So many Easter eggs and deep connections in this episode, you have to love it. This is what people wanted from Picard all along. S1 was just weird, S2 was better but still focused too much on new characters nobody cared about.

I rather enjoyed S1. S2 felt very safe with the time travel, and rather self-indulgent w/ref to Picard's childhood. But at the same time I'm glad the series wasn't like S3 from the get go, because could it have sustained three seasons of it? Dunno. And if it all comes together like we think it's gonna come together, with
[Show spoiler]all those classic ships pressed into action one last time
, it's going to have been worth the wait and will be a fitting send-off for this era of Star Trek....until they make a Titan series with Captain Shaw

They've unearthed a gem with Captain Shaw though, his irreverent kookiness has been one of the highlights of S3 for me and it shows it's not all about memberberries. Dorn keeps stealing the show with his quips though, his timing is just impeccable.

Speaking of memberberries:
[Show spoiler]I'm not sure the Kirk thing is anything other than tipping us off that Daystrom stores the bodies of Starfleet's finest, leading to the reveal at the end of Picard's remains getting tea-leafed by the rogue Changelings.

One thing that's really enhancing my enjoyment of S3 is the music. Sure, the usage of cues stolen from First Contact taps into that 'big screen' energy anyway but even the new music in the episodes just feels grander somehow. For all the technological things that TV is catching up with (and sometimes surpasses!) versus movies, music is not one of them. Not that movie music is great these days anyway but for episodic TV there's still a fundamental need to bash out more score in less time and it's still so much sonic wallpaper. But S3's score seems bigger, bolder, I keep thinking that I know this cue or that (separate from the actual nods to classic Trek cues, I mean) and I'm loving it.

It's pretty silly that Daystrom isn't heavily guarded after what happened, and they milked Worf's stoic nature for comedic purpose a bit past its welcome point, but minor blemishes. Another great episode, nostalgia done oh so right. Intrigued by all the stuff they found, hope the payoff's huge.

Worf has always been been used comedic purpose. Some of the greatest comedic moments in Star Trek have involved Worf.

'it's always been done like that' isn't always the best possible reason for anything. I felt it went on a bit too long here, but I get tradition.

It’s not just tradition for the sake of tradition. It works, it always has. That’s the reason.

Brooks is long retired. Visitor is possible since she voiced Kira on Lower Decks

A Colm Meaney cameo would be nice, we tend to associate him more with DS9 of course, but he did have an ongoing role in TNG for 6 and something seasons.
