Yes, but they didn't go under when the bubble popped, and they were still profitable. You saw a decrease in output and more sub-only releases, but they did weather the storm better than say Media Blasters which by 2013 was almost at death's door (took until very recently for them to get back on their feet). Had Bandai Visual Japan not ordered them to shut down, they'd probably still be releasing stuff to this day.

Regarding Bandai, they were also putting out defective discs during 07-08. Code Geass, Lucky Star, Gurren Lagann all suffered from it due to whatever issue they had with their old replicator.

Any news on Digimon Season 1 sub blu-ray? It's been months since the dub release.

It's coming. Designs just got approved, so it's in the home stretch. Since it's a pretty drastically different cut it had to be AstroRes'ed entirely separately.

I miss the Bandai catalog, but not their over-priced offerings.

I wonder if Discotek will do anymore limited numbered editions? I like the ones I have.

It was apparently the anti-piracy/copy protection they were using on the disc causing issues with most if not all DVD Players. Which funny enough could be bypassed by copying the disc.

The anime bubble was a wild and amazing time to be alive. Life is still good as an anime fan, but crazy to see Best Buy's shelves stocked with releases and most releases getting English dubs/collector's boxses.

It's so much better than having to make multiple phone calls to get a VHS tape from a catalog sent to a small boutique shop (though I look back on those days fondly and full of some wonder).

Most of those shelves filled with Lucky Star LE volumes that nobody bought in the late 00s...

Other than that period, it was a fun time. I sorta remember when the early Funi One Piece sets were much cheaper before the middle of the Alabasta or Skypiea arc when they went up in store price.

I bought the 5 Limited Editions to Lucky Star so Volume 6 looks a bit lonely. And then Bandai didn’t even Dub the OVA episode.

Watched Discotek's release of the live action film Anohter (2012) and honestly, I enjoyed it. I'm not the biggest fan of modern Japanese film, especially those post 2010, but this one actually worked for me. It's more of a sit back, relax, and have a good time type of film. For a horror film, has a very "clean" vibe which threw me off, until the kills actually start and was surprised as to how violent they were. Someone gets their throat punctured and we see a close up of the pulsating wound. Had to stop the movie and remove my daughter from the room as it seemed like a pretty tame affair until then. Overall, I enjoyed it more than most modern Japanese films.

As for the tech specs. It's Discotek so no issues to report. Great encoding overall.

Only A-ko and Lupin for me. Comes at the right time for me with the Kaguya releases also being that month.

Also something just billed on my card. I think it's GaoGaiGar Final.
