Have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed that first episode. I really didn't want it to end. Already can't wait for the next hour!

I'm in the same boat - on one hand, I want MORE! NOW! but on the other, I'm actually kind of glad we get something to look forward to each week for the next couple of months.

Agree. Sometimes it's nice to binge-watch, but others you just want to savour them over time. Given that this will likely be the definitive end to the next generation, I'm quite happy to take my time in getting to the end of the road

Feels a bit WRATH OF KHAN-ish. Man returns to woman after twenty years who’s been working on a secret project which could be used as a super weapon finds out he’s a father?

Betting Worf is Raffy’s handler. The YOU ARE A WARRIOR was the giveaway. And was that John Glover in the bar at the start? Maybe Verard Dax is working for Worf too?

Maybe it’s just that this was only streaming in 1080p but the space dock callback felt completely weightless in CG.

Don't forget to watch the credits. Preferably multiple times, so you see everything. You might want to take some notes.

So many cool things, but I did find the following to be absolutely hilarious - it's a throw-away line, but just tickled me -

[Show spoiler]When Picard and Riker are boarding Beverly's ship, and Riker comments on the music playing...Picard admits that he made Beverly a "mix tape".

I about died...and that's when I realized that the people who are finally in charge of this show understand the balance between adventure, drama, and humor that make the best Trek, well, the best Trek.
What cracked me up - I literally lol’d - was the bit at the bar when the bartender said “no-one wants the fat ones” in response to Riker aksing why they had so many models of the D. I’ve never liked the design of it so that was great

Smashing first episode. If the rest are this good or betterer then Jean-Luc and the gang will get to go out on a high. I quite liked S1 of Picard, thought S2 was okay but rather stale, but S3 is already leagues ahead.

What can I say, this was a visual, audio treat (although the bit rate was so starved on the Amazon Prime feed so much banding on dark scenes). So much thought went into this even the way the camera panned the Titan reminded me of the Motion Picture.

I enjoyed S1 and S2 and this looks like it is going to go up several levels. The double act of Riker and Picard was a joy to watch, in fact I really feel like Frakes could carry his own show after this.

The music was just on another level from what had come before, okay a lot of it is recycled and reused, but you know what I don't care, WOK, First Contact I was in Star Trek nirvana.

It felt so like a movie I actually felt cheated and robbed of a second episode, they should have done a double episode to kick things off. I watched it a second time late last night and boy it felt like the run time was only 20 minutes.

All I can say is Mr Kurtzman please give Terry Matalas his own show, you can see he can bring home the goods and I want to see something that is set in this time period.

Say what you will about Modern Trek but one thing that is consistent is how beautiful it looks which makes the shot of the Titan leaving space dock even more odd, it really did look like CGI rather then a ship and I haven't felt like that since ENT S1.

Edit: How could I forget the new captain, hands down stole every scene he was in, even without speak he had me in fits of laughter, the face, the looks. People may think he is being a dick but I bet you by the end people will love him as he comes round. Hope we see way more of him.

I only had an issue with one shot, the one just after they go through the space dock doors:

It just looked incredibly flat, when just a few seconds earlier it look amazing

The problem is when you have one dud shot it totally broke immersion for me and took me right out of the episode, as up until that very moment I had full-on goosebumps with the visuals, music, and direction, all harking back to Trek's heyday. I'll give it a pass for now but they really need to watch their quality control.

Are enough of us watching this to warrant a "Picard - Current Episode Spoilers" type thread like we used to do for GoT? I've watched it twice now and there are like 100 things I want to talk about, but it can get silly when you have to spoiler block every thing, especially when people are replying LOL.

Gonna be a bit less full on with the love. It's a promising start, a more promising start than s1, which I didn't like and s2, which I did, and that's it for now. Pretty sure it'll be a good season, but kinda hard to say how good after one episode. It's kinda all nostalgia for now, ending in a great final Shot, but also one we've seen countless times before in Trek tho never as convincing in anything Picard.

What gives me hope are that people who've seen the first 6 episodes are saying that this is the real deal - ones who either were disappointed with the first two seasons or outright hated them.

True, the final 4 episodes then can all fall off a cliff, but at least the first 6 being great is a lot farther than the first two seasons got lol

Seasons 1 and 2 were as much the real deal as this will be. It’s all the real deal.

As a proudly anal-retentive VFX hound I couldn't find fault with any of the shots in the show.

The one "dud" you mentioned takes place in raw sunlight - the sun is just out of frame at the top.

The Titan looked rather shite to me, it’s like they didn’t apply a few final layers of lighting. But then it’s a f*ck-ugly design in general, the nuConsitution refit is hideous.

I mean he's not really a dick. He's literally worked his ass off to get where he is by following the rules and he absolutely knows when they show up it's gonna be for something against regulations from two people who quit over 16 years ago and he doesn't want to ruin his career for them. He's just blunt with them.

I mean we are rooting for Picard and Riker as the audience because we love them. In starfleet Picard is a man who quit in disgrace and visually came crawling back to starfleet to disobey orders and get into trouble. Even Seven knows he's up to bullcrap and she's his friend. It's not like they came to him as soon as they were on board and asked for help.

I'm so bummed we didn't get the Luna class it's so nice looking and all we got was the lower decks nod in animation.

It isn't real life, they could have changed the position of the sun to that the shot looked a lot better. It's where artistic direction comes into play. I'm with Geoff D on this one (really strange they didn't use the Luna class!)

As funny as the scene was, you have to wonder why anyone bothers when you could just replicate any model you wanted.

Riker was a bit of a sourpuss in S1, so it's good he's back to his old jovial self in this season.
