I love 'Hajime no Ippo' and 'Rocky'. But I will offer one word of caution. 'Rocky' is a drama that happens to be about a boxer, 'Hajime no Ippo' is actually about boxing. With 'Hajime no Ippo' you have to really be interested in the technicalities of the sport to get into it. I had one friend who just got bored with the show because of this.

Sure, it's got its plotlines about rivalry, friendship, family, and life as a well-endowed man. But the bulk of its runtime is spent on Ippo studying his next opponent, tailoring his training to target that opponent's weakness, then seeing how his strategy plays out during the bout and possibly course correcting. They do a really good job representing different fighting styles, techniques, body types etc. So the fights are quite diverse. But if you're not into the fighting, this won't be for you.

It's been on my C-Tier, "I might get around to it someday" list for a while, and now that I knocked out my other "eh, maybe someday" title on the list (GE999), the sale right now is turning my head.

The total for the two volumes comes to $46.84, and I don't have anything else I need to pick up for the 50 buck free ship threshold.

Ippo kicks ass. I went into it thinking it would just be a fine shonen sports anime and it ended up being an all time favorite for me.

I will say though that there is a third set, so that's not all of it that was in the megadeal. Something to keep in mind.

All the characters are good even the bad ones lol.. Takamura my favorite though...when he gets his big chance to shine later on . This show still my favorite sports anime by far.. i watched others but ippo just way better.

Still a little confused with this one. Didn't they advertise it as "limited" from day 1? Unlike the recent ones where they told us how many they made, I don't remember ever hearing just how limited this release is.

They didn’t give a set number of copies, but the did say the license was unusually short, only “1-2 years”, and to get it while you could, as they were almost certain there wouldn’t be a renewal.

I looked into Dear Brother just now and it seems that I might like it. I'm bothered by the fact that it was literally almost $20 cheaper yesterday, though. On the plus side, now it is expensive enough that it ships free, so I think that "saves" a little less than $6 in shipping costs if I buy it solo.

Of course, the other issue is what if it stays around until the end of the year? I wonder, would it be discounted again? If so, I'd feel pretty foolish. I think I've noticed some lightning quick sell outs from the "Last Chance Items" section before, though. I'm a bit frustrated by my lack of knowledge here.

You could wait and see if it lasts long enough to return for the final day of the sale. Depends on if you feel like taking a gamble or not.
