Is it overkill to have floorstanding speakers all around? Should I just look for some good bookshelf style ones for the rear instead?

There is no such thing as overkill. That's what freezers and Ziploc bags for for.


Go for it. I have on 5.1 system that has only two floorstanders, and a 7.2 that has 4 (with a center that could be a floorstander).


The smaller one is for regular television viewing, some music, and so forth.


The other is to drive away door to door salesmen.


There is no overkill unless the freezer breaks down.
