Default Oct. 16th - Does it really matter?

I have 5 Blu-rays I wanna buy, and I wanna get them tomorrow. I wanna help out the cause and get them on the 16th, but Tuesdays start my long work/school week. Mondays are my day off and I can watch my movies on Mondays. Does it really matter if I buy these 5 movies Sunday instead of Tuesday? Or does it have to be on the same day as Transformers to counter all the HD DVD sales?

I've heard that the day it first starts counting is Monday (anyone care to back that up?) you could buy your movies on monday, minus the ones release on that week, maybe on the weekend for the remaining movies, I believe this week will be imporant, it'll send a message to the studio's if we block out HD-DVD for the year, and it'll crush HD-DVD fan boy's morale if the one movie they had hope to surpass BD doesn't.

TBH I can't tell you to not buy your movies tomorrow if you want, that's a choice you have to make, I've simply stated my opinion and view on the matter.

I can wait till monday I suppose, why does it start on monday though?
Also I noticed your avatar is the Dragonball Z movie on Blu-ray. I was wonderin if you knew what to expect from the release, I wanna get it but im hesitant to buy it blindly as FUNimation is a small studio and may not deilver in quality. My plan is to wait for reviews froms sites I trust but your avatar suggests you may buy it blindly. What do you honestly expect from teh transfer?

well i would think monday starting off a new week that monday might be still be considered as the week of transformers release. the transfer for Dragon Ball Z Broly i would imagine the play quality will be amazing since DBZ has great animation and so in Blu-Ray high definition would look amazing. Audio the highest possible sound might just be 5.1 DTS or maybe just a real clear Dolby Digital but nothing like Linear PCM or Dolby DTS HD master audio. the extras will only be like 1 or 2 but to get 2 movies on 1 disc thats amazing and maybe even previews to upcoming releases from funimation. funimation is not as small as you may think because here in america they are the ones selling the most anime here in the united states even though they are only available for u.s. only wouldnt see a location from them in japan. Besides i want to see anime on blu-ray so im going to buy it hoping my purchase will make them see that they need movies on blu-ray and funimation is already blu exclusive

Nielsen/VideoScan Numbers always end on Sunday. Mondays start the new week (for Nielsen/VideoScan Numbers).

are you kidding DBZ wouldnt even have to use its super saiyan powers to beat up Shrek the 3rd but its funny 2 cartoon exclusives battling eachother out on the same day but DBZ is way more popular but if it was Shrek 1 or 2 then there might be a problem but with the 3rd one its a cake walk for DBZ that week

Actually the problem is that Funimation has shown that they can't be trusted with hi-def transfers, judging by what they've been doing to DBZ TV. The post house they've been using are either incompetent or been told to botch things in an attempt to make it look more cartoony (rather than what was originally intended). As a result, the colors are off, grain completely filtered out, linework filtered out, detail smeared and no actual repairs being done to film print damage. I don't trust them not to do the same to their BD releases. The only real saving grace is that OAR for the movies are 1.85:1, so at least they won't screw that up.

IMO, it only matters in the fact that it would be nice for Blu-ray to sweep software sales for all 52 weeks.

Is it truly important? No, we'll just have to listen to HD DUD fanboi chatter about how HD DUD is mounting a "comeback". They will then point to that data in all future conversations and omit the other 51 weeks where Blu-ray curb-stomped HD DUD in sales.

The WEEK of Oct 16th is ALL important. With "Transformers" being the last major new release for HD DVD this year, it is the equivalent of the enemy's last stand at the only outpost remaining on the battlefield. In a real war scenario, why would we only want to send 10,000 troops to attack 200,000 troops at their ONLY remaining haven when we have the resources at our disposal to send well over 500,000 and destroy them?

Obviously, this analogy implies that we could win this war on the week of Oct 16th. Although I wish that could be the case, it is not. I just used it to emphasize my point. But, although it may not win this format war, it would certainly send the HD DVD camp scrambling to re-consider their choices. The psychological element to shattering their numbers ONCE AGAIN would have to start weighing on their minds.

Monday is the first day of the week and the week ends on Sunday. So why would Nielson be any different? The week doesn't end on Saturday it ends on Sunday.

Maybe it varies by where you are. Where I am, Sunday is always considered the start of a new week by the calendar. Sunday - Saturday.

Chris, Nielsen's week runs Monday thru Sunday. That's why all the Nielsen week-ending dates are Sundays and this has been verified over on AVS.

It isn't important at all, but we all saw the number of posts and fuss after they had a good week in the Knocked Up week, but how many posts have you seen this week, when Blu-ray had a decent week?

On AVS this weeks results weren't even posted in the HD-DVD sales section until someone explicity asked for them, no one will need any prompting to post if HD-DVD win a week.

Bury bad news, hype good news.

it's ashame that spiderman trilogy isn't coming out on the 16th, but i doubt that transformers will outsell 300. imho flip-flopping bay and paramount have alienate themselves from a portion of their consumers.

I understand that, but if you look at what I was quoting, it wasn't about the nielsen thing at all, but about how weeks are considered to be laid out.

Agreed. Obviously, in the grand scheme of things, HD DVD winning one (or at the very most, two) week this whole year is nothing. But the psychological blow to HD DVD supporters if they lose the week Transformers is released will be pretty substantial. Transformers really is their last hope of scoring a win this year, and I for one would love to deny them that little bit of hope...

Also, the sale of BVHE titles seems to be running on several sites so you've got your pick.
