Default I need you guys to convince my wife that we should upgrade from 1080i to 1080p

At the moment we have a 40" Sony Bravia LCD, great set but it's only 1080i.

The local Sony store has the 46" Bravia 1080p bundled with a free Sony Blu-ray player. My dad would take the player of my hands for 300 ($400), and I'm hoping my wife's sister will take the 40" LCD set for about 1000 ($1400), it would be perfect for her new apartment and she's not a HD geek.

This would mean it would cost about 1200 ($1700) to upgrade to the 46" 1080p set. And yes I know $1700 is a lot of money either way, and US prices are probably much lower.

So come on, roll up and convince my wife that this is the right thing to do!!
Something more than me just saying "it's better".
Oh, and the free BD player offer finishes tomorrow......

Well she might; she was genuinely impressed by Planet Earth, even at 1080i.
Now she needs to know that 1080p will be even BETTER!!

See if you can do what I said in my last post. Then show her the difference in sizes between a 40 & 46 that are on the showroom floor......That might put you over the top.........Where women are concerned SIZE DOES MATTER

That is a good idea.
Can you (or anyone else) recommend good demo material?
Pirates 2? Spider-Man 3?

Smile Why she should allow you to upgrade...

The only other item in a household (the first two being the Stove and the refrigerator) that brings an entire family together (in-laws included) is a great high-definition television. Whether you're watching the latest Blu-Ray movie or HDTV, it's always a great conversation piece and it makes enjoying any prime-time TV show just that much better!

Don't sell her on why you'd like to have one so much... sell her on the fact that she'd enjoy it even more!

Tell her you need to upgrade and you can do it now while the tv has some resale value.

It will be worth very little in a few years.

Cool

Are you shopping in Canada?

Because you're doing basically what I did. Out with the old, in with the new, and selling them to family that was more than happy to take the stuff off my hands. And if you're in Canada, $1700 isn't a lot extra to spend for the tv you want AND a free bluray player. Hell, that's a good price for a 1080p upgrade.

I don't know why you have to convince your wife(unless she's spending the money). Mine didn't care one way or another, but she loves the new stuff as much as I do now. If you're financially set to do it, just do it.(I've yet to hear of a couple divorcing over a new tv!)

Most women just don't place a huge priority on movie watching... a woman sees nice drapes on a bare window whereas a guy will throw up newspapers to cover it. But video is the opposite. Tell your wife this: video has changed in technology so quickly it has surpassed home computer technology and the best way to future-proof yourselves is to make the change to 1080p ASAP because the longer you hang onto that 1080i set, the more worthless it becomes and in a year you won't be able to sell the thing for 500.00 - nobody will want it. Therefore, it's a good investment. Like a car that is getting to the point of outliving it's usefulness... either use it until it dies or sell now, make some money on it and your new car - or display panel, wont cost as much.

I have a 40 inch Bravia 1080p and I would like to upgrade to a 52 inch screen. Especially since I will soon be upgrading my sound system.

But the Sony Bravia 1080p 52 inch screens are quite expensive. A lot more than the 46 inch. So, if you are happy with a 46, I'd say go for it. This is a woman talking! 46 = Big savings!

At 40" it will be very hard to see the difference between 1080i and 1080p. Why don't you convince your wife to get at least a 50" 1080p tv?

Tell her she's in for a special treat for her birthday (a nice ring or necklace), and be sure to make good on that promise.

But first of all, invite her to a very nice restaurant with a table reservation (and don't be cheap on the wine). Buy her flowers. And with the flowers, buy her a special present that she's sure to like -- if you live in a big city, there might be a trendy shop where they sell customized soap and bath fragrances (like a soap trated with the Copacabana beach's salt).
