Default Not a bad article on the issues facing HD media adoption

http://www.news.com/False-starts-in-...?tag=nefd.lede

---

The preception that "DVD is good enough" is the toughest battle to be fought by both HD-DVD and BD.

I disagree of course, but still... I wonder, if we didn't have competing formats, what would the landscape look like?

Anyway - nothing new in this article we haven't heard before, but a decent read all the same.

The fight proper against DVD will be hard, especially as DVD has a nice solid foothole in the realm of portable media [Car players the portable players etc]. A niche that blu-ray is not well suited to approach yet (and well, why would it? not like you're looking at portable HDTVs anytime soon).

One of the few advantages in theory behind the HD-DVD flippers, but well, that just doesn't have a good turnout.

Exactly. Now, possibly with time, it could be an advantagous technology for that reason, although, I suspect much like with UMD discs, it'd just be cheaper and more appreciated to bundle the discs together instead of glueing them to each other. {oversimplified I know, but there ya go}
