Awesome. Thanks for this. His and Paul Newman's lists are daunting.

Looking through this list, Lancaster has inadvertently become one of my more represented leading actors in my collection with a whopping fifteen titles. He just oozes with charisma.

For me, it's just number of sheer titles he's in. His representation on blu is impressive. He became probably my most represented actor without me even noticing. But because he's in a high numbers of blu in the US and UK it's kind of no contest. Newman is the only close in my collection.

Lancaster didn't start out on my radar but I'm happy these releases have changed that.

I love Burt Lancaster and he's one of the actors who I didn't really have an appreciation for until the last few years. I just watched the new Blu-ray of Brute Force over the weekend and loved it.

Does anyone know if there have been any rumors of Castle Keep getting a US release?

Yeah, I was surprised (in a good way) on how well represented Burt is on blu. We only need a release of All My Sons then we’ll have all of Burt’s Noirs on blu-ray.

Can’t say I’ve heard anything on a US release yet, but I know the Indicator release is region free.

First, thanks for compiling this list.

I understand that you're in the UK, but it probably makes more sense to list the US editions of the titles you currently list as UK releases (The Killers, Separate Tables, Birdman of Alcatraz, etc.) if only because I can see a lot of people reading the thread and assuming that if only a UK release is included, then a US release doesn't exist.

While he has had some odd choices in the last twenty years, I do consider many of his performances the best of all time. 2019 was probably his best year in a long time as well.

You're not wrong and he's the name that gives me the most pause, but the level of work he did from the early 70s through the late 90s is ungodly and why he still deserves a spot.

Plus, as mentioned, things like The Irishman and his collaborative relationship with David O. Russell ensure that he isn't totally wallowing in crap these days.

Same here—I never had any interest in him, and then in the last year, wow, I’ll watch literally anything he’s in. I really enjoyed Burt Lancaster month on the Criterion Channel a while back, and I’ve bought so many of Kino’s blu ray releases of his films, including their latest, KISS THE BLOOD OFF MY HANDS, and the new SWIMMER from Grindhouse.

Anyone know what the story is with an ALL MY SONS release?

Excellent thread. Burt Lancaster has made so many great films. I saw Trapeze recently on blu, and even though the transfer wasn't the best, the film was really good.

I guess, of the ones not yet released, I look most forward to:

The Crimson Pirate
Come Back, Little Sheba
The Rose Tattoo
Executive Action

Specs and Artwork for Kino’s upcoming release of Apache:

Quote:
Coming December 1st!
New HD Master by MGM!

Apache (1954)
• Theatrical Trailer
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 91 Minutes 1.85:1 Not Rated

From Robert Aldrich, the outstanding director of Vera Cruz, Attack, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, The Dirty Dozen, The Killing of Sister George and Ulzana’s Raid, comes this action-packed western that pulsates with the power and passion of an Indian war drum. Apache explodes with spectacular battle sequences, breathtaking chases and unbridled suspense. After years of bloody fighting with settlers on the American frontier, Apache Chief Geronimo (Monte Blue, Key Largo) is forced to submit to a humiliating surrender. But his fiercest warrior, Massai (Burt Lancaster, The Train), refuses to accept defeat. With enormous strength and razor-sharp cunning, Massai battles the relentless U.S. Cavalry, struggling to stay one step ahead of the highly trained soldiers who have sworn to track him down. And as his crusade escalates into a final epic showdown, Massai knows that he must persevere, not only for his life, but also for the pride of his entire race. Beautifully shot by Ernest Laszlo (Judgment at Nuremberg) and co-starring Jean Peters (Viva Zapata!), John McIntire (Horizons West), Charles Bronson (The White Buffalo) and John Dehner (The Day of the Dolphin).

The man had great taste in material. Not too many stinkers in his filmography. My favourite will always be "The Train."

A fantastic actor, if somewhat underrated at times, it’s great to see many of his titles on blu ray.

My personal favourites would probably be:

Sweet Smell of Success
Vera Cruz
Criss Cross
The Train
Elmer Gantry

B&W 133 Minutes 1.66:1 Not Rated

From John Frankenheimer, the acclaimed director of The Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May, Seconds, Grand Prix and Black Sunday, comes this action-packed WWII masterpiece starring screen legend Burt Lancaster (Run Silent Run Deep, Elmer Gantry, The Professionals). Paris, August 1944… with the Allied army closing in on German commander and art fanatic Colonel Franz Von Waldheim (Paul Scofield, A Man for All Seasons), he decides to steal a vast collection of rare French paintings and loads them onto a train bound for Berlin. But when a beloved French patriot is murdered while trying to sabotage Von Waldheim’s scheme, Labiche (Lancaster), a stalwart member of the Resistance, vows to stop the train at any cost. Calling upon his vast arsenal of skills, Labiche unleashes a torrent of devastation and destruction—loosened rails, shattered tracks and head-on collisions—in an impassioned, suspense-filled quest for justice, retribution and revenge. Featuring a top-notch score by Maurice Jarre (Doctor Zhivago) and a wonderful supporting performance by screen icon Jeanne Moreau (Viva Maria!), The Train was the fourth of five collaborations between filmmaker Frankenheimer and star Lancaster.
