Fair enough, even if a bit extreme, but that's also just my opinion so that's that.

When I finally get around to purchasing this, I'll probably go with the Japanese verison. Juuuuuuust enough of a difference for the better compared to the US version in that screenshot.
The apparent color shift alone would be enough to sway me into buying the japanese release. Good thing for my wallet I'm not that interested in this movie, lol.

Green tint and 24fps.... Did they use the DCP for the Blu-ray encode?

Uhm, quite doubtful, but it's easy to spot because from cinema to homevideo the video had a "retouch" and there are some differences.

And yet prefers the Japanese Dub of RWBY when it's an American cartoon localized to Japan. Reminds me of the Moe Otaku who only want to listen to cute sounding female Japanese Seiyu in Moe Anime with having a permanent block on the ears that prevents them from listening to American Voice Actressses but yet says that he hates Moe Anime.

But RWBY is not anime. Or so people say.

Oh, but I am, thank you! I have parties all the time here in my home theater room with snack bar. I'm actually hosting two movie parties this week for my Monthly Movie Nights tonight and Saturday, with a crowd of friends each night. We have snacks and beverages and fresh popcorn to go along with the 3D movie up on the big projection screen. And just this past weekend I hosted a party here with a half-dozen friends and neighbors. We watched some definitely-non-moe anime (Garden of Sinners, much to Moonphase's chagrin, and moe avatar!) had pizzas delivered, and I made a couple pitchers of margaritas complete with salt on the glasses. I also have a keg fridge in the snack bar with ice cold beer always on tap. We were playing drinking games to chug it all down; we even got my mother drunk while she was here, and I had to drive her home early, lol! My one friend passed out and slept on the theater room sofa all night. Great party! Like I said before, at least I have friends to invite to parties and watch anime with, instead of just living in my parents basement and fapping off to cutesy-girl otaku anime alone all the time... So there.

Cartoons are just that - cartoons. But Anime is sacred, and shall not be defiled.

Hi folks!

Following up and having unloaded the van I have finally been able to check the BD of Your Name out again for myself. Here's the findings:

Audio: We've looked at the disc and while the audio point seems to just be perception based on the fact the JP audio all comes from one source and the international releases will not by and large. While reviewers have noted on the BD the video (aka UK-Anime.net most recently) you will note nobody across DVD or BD reviewing has flagged audio issues either which lends to this point.

Video: While certainly not defective, I would be adding this to the Defective / disappointing disc thread under "disappointing" as to us this is a special project and the quality is while completely fine for casual viewers (of which a large number of buyers will fall under) as a videophile along with long time fan of Mr Shinkai's work, it isn't what I'm completely happy with (good enough to make commercial release, not good enough for me to be proud of). This happens sometimes especially when QC was done quickly and usually companies would leave it be.

What are we doing about it: We're making sure the Blu-Ray master is re-authored now to use a better video encode for the next print run that is done.

Will you be announcing a formal replacement scheme? No official replacement scheme will be posted, simply put as the disc does pass muster from a industry standpoint and the majority of viewers (in this case the mass market) experience won't be impacted.

But I am in the first run and really upset! We totally understand and as a fan who's supported us through thick and thin what we are willing to do is replace your disc when we do the reprint the disc if you're really upset by the quality. All you have to do is email shop@alltheanime.com with a subject line of YOUR NAME - BLU-RAY and write us a (polite and short) email saying what your issue with the Blu-Ray is then we'll replace it with a fresh master (coming late this year most likely).

Hope this clarifies and again shows our dedication to all of you . I could go into detail on this frontier but figure best keep it short and sweet!

Very best,

Andrew

Looking at that single-screenshot comparison between the US and JP releases with a color finder, it looks like the US release might have slightly lower red and blue levels than the its JP counterpart instead of the increased amount of green that was initially suspected. Here's what I found:

Girl's hand holding flashlight, 1 pixel to the right of the left-most fully-illuminated pixel:

JP - R:251 G:215 B:171
US - R:246 G:214 B:164

Hopefully someone will post a few more comparison shots in varied scenes so that we can get a better grip on if that minor tint issue is scene-specific or consistent across the entire film...

The more I read the back and forth about this the more I'm glad I have the Japanese 4K disc.

Another small screengrab from US vs JP set. Friend noted the UK/AU release has the same color shift as the US release which might be from the master they received.

I went and checked the HK version and that release seems to have the same problem:

Can someone get a screenshot of the same frame from the HK version?

I'm ripping the HK Blu-ray right now so I can make comparisons when more US screenshots pop up.

The color shift appears to be different on the HK BD, which also looks a bit darker.
