Default Speaker Stands, Help Please!

My setup is just about complete. I just need some speaker stands! I have Energy Connoisseur C-2 fronts and they weigh around 18 or 19 pounds each. Does wood or steel make the speakers sound better???? I need stands by this weekend, so please let me know as soon as you can. And recommendations on which stands would be good. I just want something that will make them sound better, support them and the stand won't break, and is 18", but I guess 16" wouldn't hurt either, right?
18" puts the tweeter at EXACTLY ear level.

I got this one from your links Big Daddy, thanks for the links!

Between these two, which will make my speakers sound better? Or neither?

I use speaker stands from these two companies:
http://www.wood-tech.com/catalog/7/speaker_stands
http://www.vtimanufacturing.com/Speaker%20Stands.htm

You can order them here: http://www.racksandstands.com/Speaker-Stands-C7.html

I've tested them with various bookshelf speakers of comparable weight to your Energy Connoisseur C-2's.

The VTI stands can be sand or metal shot filled.

Well, does wood, metal, or steel make the speakers sound better??? I want stands that are affordable, but will make my speakers sound great and will be stable.

Also, please post direct links to the exact speaker stands if you can.

What exact stand will sound best and be most sturdy?

I prefer the Sanus. The type of speaker stand will not have a significant effect on the sound quality. Make sure the tweeters for the front speakers are at the same height as your ears when you are sitting down. The rest is aesthetics and personal preference.

I was being told that a speaker on a wooden stand will sound very different than a speaker on a steel stand. I found one at Fry's for a reasonable price, but it holds 20 pounds. My speakers are 18 or 19 each, will those support my speakers or should I continue to go with the Sanus, which definitely will hold it?

The type of floor (wood or carpet) will have more of an effect than the type of speaker stand. Buy the stands that support more weight and look nicer to you.

The VTI stands below will be the sturdiest( they have a weighted cast iron base, & have accommodation for lead shot or sand filling to reduce distortion and increase stability ). They are $89 for a pair of 19" stands, very affordable & a true bargain IMHO. A fillable( sand or metal shot ) speaker stand with a wide weighted base & a nice sized top plate, will offer superb stability.

Thanks for the links and explanation but I just spent a LOT on a subwoofer, am getting God of War III, and am pre-ordering The Collector. I've spent a LOT of money recently and need some more affordable ones. I would go for those if I could spend the money right now, but I should save some more.
So they're a bit out of my price range, but thanks!

Carpet absorbs higher frequency sound and you hear less reflection from the floor. Make sure the stands have spikes so that they are stable on carpet.

Alright, and also, the 18" is PERFECT for when I'm laying down. But when I'm sitting up or I have guests and we're just sitting down, it'll be a bit low. Should I get the height for when sitting up or for laying down?

Higher would be better( It would cover both laying down position & seated position ). In my living room I use 36" speaker stands for my rears( slightly above ear level in a seated position ).

I hired a pro wood worker to create my stands.

Look around and see if there is someone in your area that builds wood.

I already bought the stands haha. They should be on their way soon. I'm a little worried about if an earthquake hits...I suppose that's when my earthquake insurance kicks in hehe. But I have faith in these stands and the speakers are in between stuff, so even if they were to tip over, the speakers wouldn't have that much of a fall, if any at all.
So yeah, should I buy some Blu Tak or whatever it is?

You can use Blu Tack:
http://www.amazon.com/Blu-Tack-06096...8722997&sr=8-1
http://cgi.ebay.com/Genuine-Bostick-...item4cebf905f3
http://www.amazon.com/Blu-Tack-Re-us...8722997&sr=8-2

Alternatively, go to Home Depot or Wal-Mart and buy Industrial Strength Velcro. I believe they are about $8.
