Urusei Yatsura is receiving a new 4-cour TV anime, animation production: david production.

The first cour is scheduled to begin in 2022.

I would have preferred some more movies but at least the series is getting some love. Though I am surprised they are not doing another Ranma 1/2.

I’m not excited for this for one reason they know the manga has been completed for decades but they have the genius idea to condense it.

I like what I've seen of the series, which is very little, but this is still pretty exciting. I'm always excited for anything from Rumiko Takahashi.

I think you could easily get the story of UY across in 48 episodes, so 4 cours doesn't bother me. The manga is very episodic for the most part.

UY getting a new series gives me hope that we might get a new Ranma series sometime since there's tons of manga that never get adapted. Heck, I'd even settle for a Final Chapter like movie of V37+38 of the manga.

I would prefer more movies for Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, and other older anime with their still working/living original voice actors.

I knew it was going to be the case with this from an earlier post hence my comment and disappointment and hence way I call this. the fullmetal alchemist brotherhood of this series in the sense that it’s cutting parts out.

I hope that this news means a new set of Japanese Blu-Rays of the original series is also coming, this year or the next. Because as much as I love it, while spending $300 or $400 per box I can and will do in a heartbeat, shelling $1000 or more as seen on Ebay is silly at this point.

You might be right. I don't remember the date, only that it was pushed back by a couple of weeks.

It's not out yet, Discotek mentioned delays at the replicators. Justin over at the discotek thread said he's expecting 1 to 2 week delay, so hopefully next week at the latest. Rightstuf seems to get first dibs, so I'd check there for the in-stock notification.

Got my copy of the first movie yesterday, good picture quality. It has been a while since I watched this one, forgot how good Elle's planet looked in background shots and some good somber music during some sadder parts.
