Looks nice. I'm guessing this is just a re-release, no new scan?

^Thanks, still looks like a nice overall release from Kino. Hopefully we'll eventually get a 4k scan. It would be a dream to see a 4K UHD release from Arrows academy line, but thats probably unlikely.

The Train is amazing. I suppose a new scan would improve some, but the Twilight Time disc still looks good.

I would probably rank The Train as my second favourite Lancaster movie after Sweet Smell of Success, but probably my favourite of Frankenheimers work. It’s crazy that Burt was in his fifties at the time of the movie, also undertaking all of his own stunts. The action sequences are just incredible. I’ll definitely never tire of watching this great movie.

Happy Birthday to the great Burt Lancaster!

Decided to watch Sweet Smell of Success tonight to celebrate Lancasters birthday, also fits in nicely with Noirvember. This is one of my favourite Noirs, Lancasters portrayal as J.J. Hunsecker is nothing short of masterful, the power of his character is somewhat scary at times, especially the controlling dominance he has over his Sister.

The first time I saw this I was floored by its darkness, especially from a Lancaster, who rarely plays a villainous role. When first encountering his character he just fires lethal verbal bullets towards Tony Curtis, lines I could of never imagined Lancaster to say. Tony Curtis as press agent Sidney Falco, is as equally grotesque and sleazy as Hunsecker, who clearly loathes Falco, but at the same time needs him to carry out his dirty work.

The dialogue in this movie is nothing short of iconic, with lines such as "You're a cookie full of arsenic", "You're dead, son. Get yourself buried" and “I love this dirty town”. The verbal assaults from Lancasters character are just brutal.

This is without a doubt one of the darkest noirs out there and would be my favourite of Burt’s noir output. Lancaster in Sweet Smell of Success essentially delivers one of the best performances of his career.

Amazing. Hopefully, The Crimson Pirate (1952) and Executive Action (1973) are next.

A good few of his films have weak transfers on blu. So conceivably we will get some upgrades and restorations - like we got with Vera Cruz.
