My Caliostro has not even shipped yet . In one way I’m relieved since it means it won’t get stuck in Philly right now . 7 boxes from Rightstuf and 1 from eBay stuck for a week to a month now . The eBay one tried to file a missing mail and the missing mail form won’t work .

One of my only 2 orders from the holiday sales arrived. The other order still hasn't shipped from RS yet.

I got the Hayao collection for really cheap, but the film strip was damaged, so I have to live with it.

I finally received my package sitting the longest in USPS Holiday Hell at the Philadelphia Hub, which was stuck there since December 19th. Instead of going directly from Philadelphia to Lancaster as all my packages normally do, it took a roundabout path through Pennsylvania to get here - Philadelphia to Allentown to Harrisburg to Lancaster - but it finally got here. Still waiting on 5 other late packages of anime.

From the past four weeks I guess. Bebop vinyl was the last of my December packages caught up in limbo. Thankful it didn't arrived damaged despite the box being bent up.

Devil Survivor 2 was a $25 blind box freebie from their Holiday sale. Doesn't seem bad for a freebie but it's missing the slipbox. Since the case doesn't have a UPC I'm guessing it was ex-damage.

Today's arrival is Satoshi Kon's Millennium Actress from Anime Limited in a collector's edition Blu-ray & 4K Ultra HD package. I noticed some glue stuff on the digipack so that was annoying but overall it's a nice set.

The 4K disc is identical to the Shout! Factory Blu-ray disc in terms of audio, subtitles and bonus Interviews. As mentioned before, the 4K disc is presented in Standard Dynamic Range.

The Blu-ray disc is Region B locked, but the white subtitles are unlockable on both formats and also includes SDH for those who need it.

Manga UK release of Paprika from Zavvi. No sign of the Star Blazers 2199 BD that shipped the same day, but that should hopefully arrive later without additional VAT via their EU distribution center.

Because there was no HDR pass in the film’s restoration, simple as that. HDR is not the revisionist nonsense you seem think it is, but that’s another thing to be discussed elsewhere.

Then I'll take it as a blessing that an HDR pass wasn't implemented. I don't think it's revisionist debauchery so long as there's a place for the HDR - like with Weathering With You. HDR enhances the dynamic range of that film because of how it was made. Bear in mind that HDR isn't a blanket improvement like everyone assumes it is. There are dozens of examples of HDR screwing with the gamma even on Hollywood films like "The Beastmaster" for example where everyone's skin tone is cherry red on the 4K disc.

HDR isn't perfect, not even on modern films and especially modern video games - so when ever I hear a studio giving a cel-era anime the "HDR" treatment - I get a little apprehensive...

Actually, Weathering With You was never made with HDR. It's SDR native, and the HDR is a reinterpretation of the film's visuals. The HDR is simply okay, but I prefer the look of the 1080p BDs in virtually every area for WWY.

(But yeah, I can understand and do agree with most of that. HDR is an excelent tool than can provide a more accurate look into how a film was meant to be seen, but as with any tool it can be abused to no end. I think Space Adventure Cobra's HDR was so cranked up that it worked and was amazing, but if not in one extreme, it should be carefully balanced, like what the fine folks at Silver Salt are doing for their restorations for Studio Canal and Arrow)
