They can figure out space travel, and all that involves. But they decide to come to a planet that is not only toxic, but deadly? Come on.

For example:

Quote:
The atmosphere of Venus is the layer of gases surrounding Venus. It is composed primarily of carbon dioxide and is much denser and hotter than that of Earth. The temperature at the surface is 740 K (467 °C, 872 °F), and the pressure is 93 bar (9.3 MPa), roughly the pressure found 900 m (3,000 ft) underwater on Earth.[1] The Venusian atmosphere supports opaque clouds made of sulfuric acid, making optical Earth-based and orbital observation of the surface impossible. Information about the topography has been obtained exclusively by radar imaging.[1] Aside from carbon dioxide, the other main component is nitrogen. Other chemical compounds are present only in trace amounts
BTW, when they say "primarily" what they mean is the atmosphere is 96.5% carbon dioxide.

Would you go there? I mean, that's absurd.

I mean, I have other problems with the film, but that's the primary one.

Let me watch it again after work because I think Mr. Twist put another twist in that movie only a few noticed.

That's entirely possible, I won't deny it. I left so angry that it could have totally happened and I just never picked up on it.

Sorry about that, was just playing with you. I thought you weren’t serious. Never heard of a movie so bad it causes physical pain.

From your later post I get what you mean though. I have serious issues about it too. But everything else was so good I chose to ignore it. It’s very well written (except that part) and directed. Great acting too.

I have zero problems with the water aspect in Signs. The story gives us no actual background on the aliens whatsoever. Earth could have been their last hope.

I actually find that kind of hang-up completely beside the point: it's a film about faith, not the minutiae of interplanetary invasion. I particularly like the theory that the beings symbolize demons, and water stands in for holy water (do you think it's a coincidence that the discovery of a method of killing them came from the Middle East?).

Yeah I always thought the aliens were never aware that water was their downfall? That never bothered me.

Not seen the movie in an age. Can someone remind me the logic of the "swing away" premonition? I never got what that was exactly.

Ummm, yeah, faith, spiritual and stuff. Although I get it I choose not to look at it from that angle. Just not my thing. I just love the sci-fi part of it, the thrill, the suspense, the mystery, the characters, etc.

But before we go to Mars, we studied the atmosphere, we took pictures, we sent probes, rovers, etc to understand the planet first. We even know a lot about exoplanets just by studying their spectrum of light. I’m sure the alien is intelligent, having able to do interstellar travel and all. So being stupid for not studying the planet they’re trying to invade doesn’t make sense.

But like I said I choose to ignore that and still love the film. I just can’t deny the flaw. You can’t just say you love something only because it is perfect.

They could have been SO stupid that they figured out space travel but didn't understand water?

Yeah. Could have happened.

To me, even the "faith" aspects of the movie fall to pieces, because
[Show spoiler] if the intent was God "testing" Mel's faith with the alien invasion, then why did He allow his wife to die -- which is what caused him to lose his faith in the first place! -- just so she could give him an obtuse clue to insure his family's survival?!

Give us something, Night. I have not been excited for your project until Glass. Now I'm rooting for you again. Some hints, a few Signs of the plot.

That is what I was thinking. For me, it was Lady In The Water that ruined it for me. I even quite enjoyed The Village.

I’m loving his comeback though. Absolutely loved Split.

Signs doesn't get enough credit for its perfect blending of genres as well. Its a pretty damn funny comedy as well, going from humour to thrills effortlessly.
