Default Digital code redeemed incorrectly as SD

I was messing around in iTunes last night trying to get titles to upgrade to 4k and actually had success with a couple. There was, however, a problem with A-Team. I already own the Extended Cut in HD from almost 4 years ago but hoped for an upgrade. The coded worked but actually redeemed it in SD and as the regular version of the film. This version then proceeded to populate all over by way of Movies Anywhere. I called Apple and after being sent to two incorrect people I was finally put in touch with the correct department. She claimed to have removed the title from my account but nothing changed. I then disconnected iTunes from Movies Anywhere, still no luck.

Finally I opened a chat with Apple and got two different people. I was told that 1.) they cannot remove something from your account and 2.) wouldn't correct the SD resolution issue so it didn't stand out like a sore thumb being that I only have one other SD title which isnt available in HD. The supervisor refused to do anything about this and even claimed that the ony way to get HD quality movies is to buy from the iTunes store directly. He then said that blu-rays give out SD. He also made sure to reiterate that "Apple's decision is final." Umm, seriously?

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with an unwanted iTunes redemption or incorrect resolution and how you resolved the problem. Honestly, Apple has never once resolved any of my issues over the years. There is always one reason or another that they are not allowed to or cannot fix the problem. They truly might be the worst customer service I have ever experienced as they make absolutely no effort to step outside of the guidelines to provide a positive resolution to a customer's concern.

The only time I've had issues with codes were disc based, and they were mostly Disney, at some point they reverted to SD and then to SD all across MA, but I believe they ended up correcting them, or at least Vudu did on their part.

I will say though, Apple's support is some of the worst.

The studio determines the resolution of the code, not the provider. Call or email the studio.

Yeah, it just doesn't make sense that a blu-ray would give SD instead of HD. Thanks, I have emailed Fox in hopes of an upgrade. Regardless, Apple not being able to remove an item from the account is a bit ridiculous. They really make no effort to step outside of a comfort zone when it comes to providing a positive customer service experience.

So if I score a cheap HD code for the movie and enter it on Vudu, FandangoNow, Google, ect will that override the SD out there right now on all my services due to Movies Anywhere seeing the upgraded resolution?

Yes, it will upgrade the SD to HD, if the code redeems in HD. Luckily, if it's a MA code, you can check before redeeming what quality it will be. I'm not sure you can if redeeming on any of the other services.

As far as I know The A-Team has never had a HD code. The only codes were itunes xml codes that all redeem SD.

This is the where do they redeem spreadsheet

Also... The A-Team has no 4K master or file, so there's that...
