I'll be seeing both in the theater but Renfield looks like a lot more fun to me than The Pope's Exorcist.

TPE is straight up horror and Renfield is a horror-action-comedy, so I tend to catch the latter types of films at home.

Let us know what you think of the Star Trek set, as I am on the fence at the moment with it. I did just start Star Trek Discovery first 4 seasons on Blu-ray, and can easily declare that it is one of the heaviest craziest bass output for a tv show I have come across.

Pope’s Exorcist is a day 1 buy for me.

Enjoy your Star trek films, I always enjoyed First Contact the most.

Going to see The Pope’s Exorcist on Sunday night.

First Contact 4K disc was fantastic! Wow, and I watched it last year when P+ had the 4K DV version and thought that one was awesome. As usual, the disc BURIES the digital presentation.

Also, my UK import of City of Lost Children 4K disc also arrived today and I will be watching that next before I turn in for the night. My favorite French film of all time!

Watched In the Heart of the Sea 4K disc earlier today and that was a great presentation. I had seen the film before and liked it but the Dolby Atmos was demo-worthy!

City of Lost Children 4K disc UK import was terrific, as well.

I may bite.

I watched The Mortuary Colllection in 4K. Quite good collection of stories with an interesting wraparound. Fair transfer except one instance of jittery panning and a small amount of banding It was the 4K German media book by the way.

I think it’s the first time I have seen banding on a 4K disc. (200 in now)

Rented Creed 3 on Vudu last night. I thought it was actually pretty good.

I read about how dedicated power amps are going extinct.

Makes sense for a lot of reasons including the availability of wireless powered speakers and sophisticated AVRs and sound bars.

I’m so happy I got one as it’s been one of the most rewarding upgrades ever. It may be a good time for used purchases given its trending downward. Mine came from someone moving to a Sonos system.

Mac Mini EOL. With the last ATV4K firmware update I lost access to Developer HUD as usual with updates. Now I need Mac OS Ventura 13.3 in order to install Xcode 14.3 and my old Mini can not run Ventura. Anyone here running a 2018 or later Mini with Ventura? If so, what is it like in terms of speed?

Dragonslayer and digital locker updates.

At Vudu I had Dragonslayer as a DVD2D title. It has been updated to UHD with only HDR and DD+ 5.1 sound. I redeemed my UHD Blu-ray code at iTunes and there it is UHD DV and Atmos.

That is probably true for consumer grade but not likely to change for professional grade rackmount amps. For example look at the number of amps available at Sweetwater here. Other outlets such as B&H, Crutchfield and even Amazon have them available.

I have 2 ATV 4Ks. One with developer HUD working but with older software and one with the latest software but without dev HUD as I have been through this PITA situation few times in the past.

I hate Apple's strict ecosystem which is why the only Apple product I own is the ATV 4K box.

It's even worse with other streamers except FireTV stick as it is almost impossible to get HUD.

I hope one fine day Apple makes it easier to get HUD working without Xcode. They know it is possible but won't spill their magic beans that easily.

I get the impression the firmware for the ATV4K is programed using Xcode so I do not see any reason that the ATV4K HUD could not be include natively in tvOS. That would eliminate all this nonsense of pairing and downloading just to get the HUD.

That Nielsen company sent me an Abe Lincoln, said in the letter they would send another 20 dollars as a check if I completed their television programming survey. Didn't know how to answer a number of the questions, since I don't watch television or stream. Consume television almost exclusively through Blu-rays and DVDs.

Nielson sent me info about providing radio listening data and I wonder how many people actively still listen to the radio.

I know I don’t. I did long ago but things were so different. Mainly there were few phones and the phones were still phones only.

Saw Dungeons and Dragons in a nice theater last night. I wish it was more crowded. People really need to get back to theaters regardless of how nice the home systems are

Hey, read it here…

https://www.gearpatrol.com/tech/audi...amp-explained/

And it seemed to match the case where mine came from a remodel where it was replaced with Sonos.

I agree it is crazy. Especially now that I’ve experienced a good power amp. They truly deserve a lot of admiration as the update in my case was huge.

Thanks for sharing the article. It does however solely focus on listening to music, and highlighting integrated components consisting of a phono pre-amp and integrated amplifier. The same philosophy holds true with streaming music, as there are multiple companies combining lossless streaming and an integrated amplifier where you have both power and control.

Home theater is a bit more demanding on power for those of us who care about such things, as the dynamics involved require the headroom. I believe companies will take advantage of that demand, albeit a small portion of us, for some time to come, but we have to pay more to get it.

A friend of mine came to the same conclusion as you recently did, where he has a high end Denon and was content. I can be a costly friend, as I nudged him towards a couple of upgrades, one being trying out external amps. He grabbed a couple of Outlaw amps and he couldn’t believe the difference it made, and is re-watching his favorite movies.

I think we are safe for a good bit of time.

Reading it over again it seems like it’s referring to smaller and vinyl specific systems. While vinyl can be found with 4 channel those systems were and I suppose are still rare so this is also concerning stereo playback.

I don’t see ANY nice home Theaters without power amps even if an AVR is used as the processor.
