I also have a LG DV OLED. Some on this thread have the Visio DV TV's. Will Sony x700 with its forthing-coming DV FW play DV Disc for those TV's??? What about the other Brands making DV TV's for 2018 as introduced at CES 2018( among them the new Phillips DV TV's https://www.engadget.com/2018/01/08/...by-vision-hdr/) Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 01-30-2018 at 03:21 PM. How do I put somebody on my ignore list, can't find it.
And these two really struck a cord with me. Every tech-thread is shitted full from those two and it's always only BS. Edit: Found it myself! |

What he said.
It would be nice to get more thread relevant content. I'm in the market for a DV player, and this one (once the DV update hits) is on my short list of possibilities. So please, to those who own them, I'd love to hear more from you. The good, the bad, the ugly hehe. |

A quote (comparative comment between the UBP-X1000ES/X800 and UBP-X700):
"Perhaps oddly though, the Sony player UBP-X1000ES only supports regular HDR. There’s no compatibility with Dolby Vision, which you might think would be a given (for universal appeal) at this higher price point. Oddly, Sony’s incoming, low-cost UBP-X700 model does support Dolby Vision, yet Sony maintains there are no firmware plans to add DV to this deck...the X1000ES and X800. The player isn’t compatible with the upstart HDR10+ dynamic metadata standard either. Is this a big deal? It depends on your display. If you own a top-end 4K HDR TV, capable of a high peak luminance, the benefits of any dynamic metadata HDR system are actually negligible, as the set will not/or-only-rarely need to tone map (which is the process by which a TV brings content outside of its luminescence capabilities down to a level that it can handle)." • http://www.techradar.com/reviews/son...blu-ray-player Last edited by LordoftheRings; 01-30-2018 at 07:58 PM. |

I'm starting to think that this whole DV issue is not on the manufacturer side. (Aside from the fact that they are releasing these players promoting DV only to find out there is a small footnote attached to that feature). There has to be more going on behind the scenes.
LG, Philips, and Sony all have players that are waiting on firmware updates that will prob happen around late this summer. LG and Philips were the first to get cold feet and release their players early. They were probably told by Dolby that they may get the update early, providing agreed upon fees were paid. LG released an early firmware update that few people were able to install. Dolby prob caught wind and told them to remove it. It may also make sense as to why the Oppo players have the functionality, the price of their player more than make up for the license fee. It probably doesn't cost much more to produce an Oppo player than any of these other players. I know build quality and parts make a difference, but not a huge difference. So their price has to include that license fee. Now should we be bugging the manufacturer to supply this feature or perhaps we should be bothering Dolby to get their act together. Unless Sony, LG and Philips get a discount on the license once X number of units have shipped. That could be one reason. Perhaps Sony is estimating that they will be able to ship a certain number of units by summer. This could also explain why LG and Philips haven't received the updates - maybe they haven't shipped as many as they hoped for. I think th functionality is there (LG obviously has it). Something is going on behind the scenes. Most likely to do with license fees. |

Yes. I watched LG UP970 played 9 DV Disc Movies paired with the LG E6 OLED. Magnificient PQ. No issues.
My 10th DV Disc movie It(2017) did freeze momentarily or judder here or there. But I don't know if it was DV Mapping or the Sony Drive in my UP970 was acting up(Early April built date). I did purchase the Best Buy 4 year Protection/Replacement plan. So no worry there. I do recommend anyone buying the x700 to get the same Protection/Replacement plan. I mean look at OPPO 203. All the problems it had at its first 6 month. Dolby also is not perfect. We live in the FW World now. A Protection/Replacement Plan is just Smart. Just look at all the Big Screens Returns to Best Buy. I just regret having never brought such a plan for my OLED. Im missing out on an Exchange for a model couple years down the road. Or sooner Upon need. Would you believe it. I read of several peoples even returning their Z9D's because of issues. Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 01-31-2018 at 01:31 AM. Reason: Finishing |

No worries with my Z9D. I was thinking of getting the x700 but after my x1000es and it's lack of getting a DV upgrade I'm not feeling Sony right now. I'm hoping the Cambridge CXUHD will be upgraded to low latency DV so I can go that route.

Prudent Buying of E6 OLED allowed us to have 450 plus streaming VUDU movies. Redeem code and actual VUDU buys. With much backed by the physical Disc at home. What $20-$30 × 450 movies plus.
My LG UP970 was $279. Plus Best Buy Protection/Replacement. Our collection is lots 3D's , 1080p's, 4K HDR10, DV Disc. Yes. Expensive Hobby. Especially with all the added AV Equipment costs. But So Many new AV stuff these days Really Really, Really needs multi-year Replacement/Plans so that One Can Get AV Functionality as Vendors promised. It really floors me how many peoples returns Big Screens back to Best Buy for Exchanges. Prudence is Golden. When Buying in Todays AV World. JohnAV. I just regret not Thinking About, Knowing the Virture of, the added Safety Net offered by 4yr Protection/Replacement Plans. I brought lots AV stuff from Best Buys. The LG UP970 was my first buying a Replacement/Plan. The other thing I learned from Many, Many on Forums. Let AV items drop to fair prices. Heck. Multi-FW's can take 1-2 years to get make Half-Baked AV products Good. So let Crazy Prices settle. Yes. DV Disc Players when their Prices settle____ For a 4 year Protection/Replacement Plan is like $35. Even for Sony's Mass Mkt Selling Flagship 4K UHD Players. I now know peoples Exchange Big Screens if their Expensive Displays becomes with Dead Pixels, Banding, Flash-Lighting, Blooming, Burn-Ins, etc etc. I see them make multiple Exchanges/Replacements until they Get What They Paid For. DV Players is just an Expensive Box. Often needing lots FW's with no Gurantee for Results one pays for. Protection/Replacements Plans are just smart. For a Disc Spinning Box!!! Can you Imagine paying $600 plus for a DV Profiled Loaded Disc Player and not be able to play DV Disc to $5000-20,000 DV Ready Displays. Worst yet... even as those Displays have fallen 50-60% of paying near MSRP. And one still can't play one's DV Discs. Even now Feb 2018. Thats Sleep Lost! On the VUDU. Can someone confirm the Atmos for the 4K Blade Runner 2049. I heard Spare Change say it. But I could'nt confirm it as the video moved quickly. Thank you. Oh! Was VUDU sending the 1080p version of Blade Runner BUT the Sony UpScaled it to 4K???
Spare Change did say x700 should have been $150. Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 01-31-2018 at 10:31 AM. |

Sony believes in maintaining Competitive Edge in the Market Place.
Everyone here please insure x700 Netflix App be Dolby Vision compliant. Call them, facebook them, twitter them, email Sony if Necessary. To maintain Parity with LG, etc Having x700 Netflix App with Dolby Vision is a must for most of us with DV TV's. Apparently SpareChange himself does not have a Sony DV Ready TV at his YouTube Video that was posted above.
