I loved this film! It's just the kind of stylish horror I love and would recommend it to any genre fan.

It's not for everyone though. I saw it at a film festival in early 2011 where I felt like it just left most of the viewers confused. Afterwards, one audience member even asked the director what the film was about. So, viewers that will look for a coherent plot will be lost, viewers willing to just experience the film's visual style (as seen in the trailer), unique composition and genuinely creepy atmosphere will certainly be pleased.

I just watched this. It is really something else. I really liked it, though that can be attributed to the fact that I like these kinds of movies. Definitely not for everyone. I can see why so many people are put off by it and therefore that's where it's low ratings come from. If you go into it for just an experience it's like nothing else. You come across very few movies that are like this. I also really like how it's such a great throwback with its grain, colors, and synthed out score and sound effects just its overall feel is great. Can't wait to pick up this blu-ray to re-watch and hear it in lossless surround sound!

Not sure if that's a spoiler or not, but you might want to "spoiler tag" it.

Not really a spoiler:
[Show spoiler]No clear background/story info is given in the film, so I really don't think anything is spoilery. We never really 'find anything out' about what's happened or happening.

This movie is a huge gay allegory.

- The obvious reference to Wizard of Oz in the title.
- It's set in the 80s because of AIDS.
- It has a junky daddy figure dying of AIDS.
- It has an S&M bondage sleepsack zombie.
- It has a repressed leather queen awkwardly coming out to his wife.
- The leather queen then acts out his repression by killing men.
- It features a hilariously limp wristed DEATH BY FALLING OVER.

That being said even when I'd consider myself the audience for any glacially paced movie with too much style this one is beyond awful. It needed some of the kick that much better movies such as In A Glass Cage get from ridding themselves of allegory while casting gorgeous boys alongside Marisa Paredes.

Save yourself the money and watch INLAND EMPIRE or Cosmopolis again.

Everyone's going to have a different opinion on this movie. That is why you shouldn't listen to anyone and just watch it yourself. The ending death was indeed a joke. I mean just about anything else would of been better than what happened. He should of got ran over by a car or got splattered by a Semi Truck or something when not paying attention. That was my only whim with the movie though.

Just re-watched this and realized all the special features we were told about last week on this site aren't actually on the disc.... there's only an additional scene and the trailer included.

I bought it at importcds as well...pre-ordered it about two weeks ago, though. I was looking forward to the behind-the-scenes-type material that was described, but unfortunately it didn't happen.

My local Best Buy isn't carrying this, so I Amazon'd it. Can't wait. Talked to Panos (the director) last April and this flick sounds all sorts of incredible.

Did you get the Canadian version/disc or the U.S. version/disc. The U.S. is done by Magnolia and the Canadian is Mongrel according to this site. Maybe one has the special features and the other doesn't. Hopefully, someone can confirm this. I could check the case for the U.S. release tomorrow if they have it at my local Best Buy.

I'm a MASSIVE fan of Beyond the Black Rainbow but most viewers will probably find it difficult. I saw the film several times in theaters and there were always massive walkouts. Slow / hypnotic / beautiful. I'm really looking for to picking up the blu so I can go study it further at my own pace.

I hosted a short interview with director Panos Cosmatos as he shopped for blu-rays at Amoeba Music in Hollywood: http://www.amoeba.com/whats-in-my-ba...panos-cosmatos

What the Hell kind of name is Panos Cosmatos?!? From his IMDb pic, he looks like he should be on the No Fly List.

Yes, it's the US disc I have, the Magnolia/Magnet one. Here's a quick shot of the back:

Man that really stinks, I was looking forward to listening to the director's commentary. For once, I'm glad I did not pre-order.
