BB has thrived selling customers expensive appliances since 2020. But that stay-at-home + stimulus checks, drive-up hazmat suit, build your own apocalypse bunker economy didn't last forever. Normally, I'd agree with several of the posters on here: that Best Buy appears to be on their way out. But I can't believe how much money they sunk into "remodeling" the stores around here with all these 'hands-on' displays and Ikea-styled alcoves. So no, I don't think they're in that headspace of giving up quite yet.

There are only so many idiots you can gouge with $699 espresso machines and $6000 fridges that browse Snapface. Not sure where we go from here. But it's absolutely a series of bad decisions coming from the top. It seems like they only care about skimming profits from the upper class now. It seems like they're going 'boutique'.
Interesting take and I noticed you're in Minneapolis...

yep. Best Buy headquarters and many of the 'home base' stores.

Same with Target. You get a feel for the company's direction with their test stores and remodeling here.

That was Sears Hometown, not Sears wasn't it?

Carrying basically high end appliances like washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. Maybe stock new releases only, and hopefully have shippers for Black Friday.
They already got rid of movies at some stores. 1 of the stores near me stop carrying movies last July and many other people reported their stores stop carrying movies. It seems a slow rollout but probably all stores will stop before the end of the year.

This really sucks. Crazy how much worse Best Buy has gotten in the span of one month.

Remember when some of us said, Best Buy was killing sales by offering less variety, and the same people here said no, it was just the lower sales is why they cut variety in their stock.

Them jacking all the prices up kind of backs up what we were saying all along....Best Buy is hurting sales on purpose.

When I worked at Best Buy that store was always packed. They got rid of most of the media and focus on laptops, phones and appliances, and every time I go in that store now its a tomb.

They really did this to themselves.

The store only has 5 customers at any given time and only one cashier and for some reason they all check out at the same time and the slowest one goes first and holds the line up

I'm just glad that I'm not alone in complaining anymore. Several hundred pages back I was yelled at for complaining about Best Buy in here. Now we're all here complaining. Welcome everyone!

Very true. It’s always someone buying all these add-ons and other doodads that require authorizations and overrides too. Meanwhile three managers(?) will walk back with nothing to do

The entire hot deals section has been dead since the Vinegar Syndrome $10 sales at the beginning of the month.

So that means we just have to spend our time whining and complaining?

As much as I’m sure everyone loves the, “Best Buy is going to die because they don’t want to stock movies that they make $2 of profit on!” discussion, actual deals just get buried in it (like the Statham multi-pack last week).

The most annoying thing is the LP/Greeter. Can't even walk into a store anymore without six questions.

"Hi can I help you with anything today?"
*still walking away*
"No thanks"
*still walking away*
"Are you sure? If you need something you'll have to come back to me.."
*still walking away*
"No I'm good"
*still walking away*
"Okay well if you do need something you'll come back here."

Just let me shop in peace. Holy hell. Going to start wearing AirPods into the store.

In the past, we called that “customer service”.

I like to call that "overbearing."

In the past, when I used to work at Best Buy (10+ years ago), it was just a simple "Welcome to Best Buy" from the LP person and that's it.

We can complain, scream or cry all day about what Best Buy is doing to our "beloved" movie section but the reality is movies are a small part of the everyday commercial enterprise for businesses.

Best Buy is treating this situation the same way all of the other retailers are treating movies.

Whether Best Buy is giving free shipping again but upped their prices, or the lack of variety [Costco used to only bring in the New Releases and have now stopped bringing in movies completely, why?, because they saw over time they weren't as popular as before and sales had dropped] is not the reason they have shrunk their bluray dept. It's lack of sales.

This is not Best Buy's fault or Target's fault or Amazon's fault. If you want to blame anyone blame INNOVATION for the invention of the Internet and Streaming.

99% of the population does not care about the shrinking of the Best Buy movie department and they do not discuss how Best Buy could fix it or what the cause was or was predicting 10 years ago this would happen.

They...have...all...moved...on...TO STREAMING.

It's therapeutic for us all to discuss the hows and whys of what Best Buy is doing to their movie dept [Target too, somewhat with Walmart] but basically game over.

I, myself, will continue while it lasts.

Ya know what? I still buy CDs new and used. I will still buy blurays and 4Ks and even DVDs!

When all is said and done it's obvious that the DVD was KING. The explosion of physical movies begain with DVDs. It was raining money for the retailers with DVDs at all the long gone stores. Dave's Video in Studio City, LA was PARADISE. DVDs galore and signings of New Releases from the Directors. John Carpenter, Robert Wise, Kevin Smith yeah I got those.

DVDs once ruled the world not blurays or 4Ks.

I will always thank Best Buy for having some of the best Black Fridays of all time and ALWAYS having enough stock for 99% of the advertised items and that last B2G1 Disney Steelbook blowout.

Black friday and steelbook exclusives may be the only time i purchase movies from BB anymore unfortunately and who knows if that will even continue in the future. The old saying is, all good things must come to an end...

Other retailers are jacking up the pricing on movies $10 plus? And offering the movies at 'sale pricing' to paid membership members?
