Damn. What's wrong with the transfer? I ordered it during the sale.

It's really washed out and daylight outdoor scenes are drab, to say the least. It's good a film this obscure is out there but the transfer, while watchable, isn't great.

EDIT: Just seen this is a new 4K restoration?! Wow. Maybe, I guess, with zero colour correction etc performed.
ANOTHER EDIT: No, I'm sticking to my guns. It looked shite.

I thought the transfer was fine, the film itself boring as hell! No wonder it's kind of a forgotten film.

I got my copy recently and posted some screencaps in the movie's dedicated thread yesterday. It did look pretty drab and flat but I'm wondering if that's possibly just the source material itself. The scan looked fine to me.

Shame about the movie itself, I'll have to check it out but it sounds like it's hardly his best work. Just skipping around to take those caps, I wasn't too excited about the amount of screen time devoted to dreary office scenes.

Screencaps:

That's a bummer. The synopsis sounded interesting. I'm a fan of revenge action films. That's why I ordered it. Oh, well.

Regarding the source material, yes I think the film has an intentionally diffuse look. I thought the blu looked really washed out regardless.

Anyway, managed to sell it on eBay in about 11 hours.

What are the chances 88 Films are going to release Burning Paradise in the UK alongside Vinegar Syndrome in the states (ala- Righting wrongs, Ebola Syndrome and iceman cometh)?
Very tempted to get the US release but it costs a billion pounds.

I was wondering this too, was tempted to import it during the sale but the postage is steep (since Fun City titles are now being released in the UK, and other VS labels could follow suit). Looks absolutely batshit and the kind of thing 88 Films would surely love to do.

And more Ringo Lam is never a bad thing, I bought Wild Search and Full Alert from Eureka, but I did skip the JCVD titles from 88 to be honest. So until someone can get the On Fire films and/or Full Contact, surely Burning Paradise would be the next logical step...

It's nowhere near Lam Nai-Choi or Kuei Chih-Hung levels of insanity, or even Tsui Hark at his most exuberant for that matter, but yeah - definitely "out there" compared with most of Lam's films.

Given that it's VS in the states, I do wonder if it's one of the HK films coming up on Radiance's slate. Or is it a bit too outre for fran?

In the interests of fairness to 88 Films and other users, there’s a chance I might have watched this film with my Sony OLED set to standard instead of custom. Hear me out.

Last night I decided to rewatch Cruising. About 10 minutes in I thought it looked way too contrasty even by Friedkin’s revisionist standards. It turned out the TV setting was on standard (a setting that I’d never use - it’s likely my partner made this change). Therefore it’s possible the same setting was implemented 24 hours earlier. Embarrassingly, this means my above feedback has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Any had their recent 88 orders delivered? Cannibal Holocaust was dispatched last week and when I look on the DHL site with the tracking reference the reference does not exist.

One of my orders was sent last week with a German tracking number that doesn’t exist. It has yet to arrive, though judging by other parcels I’m waiting for, it seems Royal Mail post is 5-7 days behind.

I had the same odd German tracking - however my order turned up this morning, via standard RM delivery

Usually they have shipped within a few days but seems to take longer this time around for some reason?

I placed my order on November 28th and everything I ordered was in stock so no pre-orders and still shows up at unfulfilled.

Will give them this week and if there is no update on Monday I will drop them an e-mail.

I'm just very excited about my orders. I placed them both on the first day of the sale. I can't wait to see them. We just have to wait unfortunately.

They just had a big sale and are processing thousands of orders, give it a couple of weeks before you start emailing them.

Especially if there was a pre-order as they'll only ship when they all become available.

I had Mardi Gras Massacre in my order, so God knows when that will arrive
