Battle Creek Brawl is quite underrated imo (though as I recall, Time Out film guide rated it above Clouse's Enter the Dragon). It was certainly more enjoyable than expected when I finally watched it on the old Fox(?) US DVD. I'm looking forward to the improved re-issue as I somehow held off on the previous, crappy master release.

I have never seen it but I can't stand stretched or squashed aspect ratios so passed on the last disc. This one I will pre-order but I don't know about the other JC re-releases, sell me on those...

The whole "they're releasing X instead of Y" moan is really played.

Besides, Wing Chun is rather lame!

88 doing a "proper" release of BCB makes total sense. Yes, it's fairly weak Jackie sauce (hell, it's even fairly weak Robert Clouse sauce for the Clouse fans), but I think a lot of people forget just how popular the film was and still is with casual martial arts viewers.

The way I look at it is that it will provide some funding for future releases that one or two of us are more interested in.

Robert Clouse is a total non-entity of a director...although the fight from his debut DARKER THAN AMBER looks rather impressive. He only got the ENTER THE DRAGON gig for being cheap.

One gives him points for bad taste for doing FORCE FIVE - a crude mash-up of ENTER THE DRAGON and the real-life Jonesetown massacre.

That’s subjective, but I was giving an example.

I was discussing this film with Aclea last year in another thread and he mentioned it was a genuine scrap.

And when you watch it you'll see two tough nut actors not giving way to each other. William Smith got 3 broken ribs and Rod Taylor a busted nose.

I received a parcel from 88 earlier this week and was surprised to see the returns address was for RAREWAVES. Odd.

I'm pleased about an upgraded Battle Creek Brawl release.

1. Project A.

2. Sounds a little like Millionaires Express, near the end of the movie when the character wizzes on the Gatling gun to cool it down. No Jackie in that one though.

Anyone know how 88's Hitcher in the Dark compares to VS's release? I can't find any comparisons online.

Don't know if this has been posted before, but 88 uploaded a short video on YT showing of the new restoration of The Whip and the Body. Looks like the overwhelming blue tones of the previous transfer are gone.

Are we on track for a March release for Gorgeous? Really want this one, more than Supercop (probably seen Supercop too many times as its one of the first DVDs I owned)

Do we know that this is the intended look for it? I saw the bluer one and back then I thought that was how it was supposed to look, so now the new one looks a bit strange in comparison, even just comparing to my memory of it.

Usually Mario Bava has quite precise control of colours that sort of doesn't look to be there with the new version? Even looking at them side by side, I'm not sure which one seems more as intended.

[edit] TBH After thinking some more, it makes more sense to me that the new is the correct look, I really doubt that Mario Bava shot in more different colors and then added a blue tint.

Will this be Region B locked ? Or is that to be determined ?

This really looks good. Never seen the film before, but have read reviews of previous releases.

I'll want this one if it looks this good.
