Kris Deering calibrated all of the new Sonys and JVCs (and Epson LS12000) for an event in Colorado. He also posted measurements. The JVCs were widely considered the best from the audience by all reports of people who attended. There is discussion over at AVS about it.

Quite honestly I don’t even understand why the shootout is needed. I’ve been saying the exact same thing from the first moment Somy released their new laser projector and the first week Epson released their LS12000. The difference in quality between the 3 projectors are so great to the point that you don’t even need to do a shootout to see the difference.

There are a variety of different interests in the industry who sponsor these events. Sony and JVC reps were present at the Colorado one.
There are also some rabid Sony fanboys who claimed these new Sonys would crush the JVCs. But the data and most viewers seem to differ. Last edited by HeavyHitter; 09-02-2022 at 04:53 PM. |

Yup. When I posted my Sony X7000 review, Sony fanbois were attacking me when I said the JVC is better than Sony. One of them was angry because I “only” spent 8 hours doing the tests for the review.

Its good to have competition with both JVC and Sony offering LCOS projectors. Each year both companies come out with new better models. The nice thing about JVC is they offer HDR10+ where as Sony only offers HDR10. JVC for around 10+ years has been the leader in LCOS projectors and they are normally a notch above the Sony’s when it comes to picture quality. I just hope one of these days Sony or JVC will work with Dolby to offer the home version of Dolby Vision HDR on all projectors under $60,000 and maybe projectors over $60,000 offer both the home and professional cinema version of Dolby Vision HDR (might need two projectors to increase the brightness which would also improve the 3D performance along with nice Dolby Vision HDR performance).

There is no point in releasing every year when you’re over and over keep releasing inferior products.
During the 3 years of JVC releasing the same model they upgraded the features and performance of their NX series very dramatically … TWICE… without charging their customers extra. |

@silentbob, Sony new VPL-X6000ES and VPL-XW7000ES are 3D capable.
NZ7, NZ8, and NZ9 are very slowly just now starting to become available, but the small allocations are just starting to fill backorders. New order will be a few months out to be filled. |

However, the 3D glasses I have from Sony (TDG-BT500A) are a tiny bit better. Both are good though. I think I have 10 pairs total. 2 from Sony, 8 from Samsung. Last edited by bhampton; 09-08-2022 at 11:44 AM. |

I bought the Hi-Shock glasses from our .ca site and work great with my NX7 and XpanD RF emitter. They have several designs and would suggest (if you need some) the Onyx/Diamond versions because the have the extra plastic to block that side light when viewing your movies.

New firmware coming soon...
FW Update news IFA Berlin (Google translator): JVC - Filmmaker mode and 25th Anniversary For the first time, JVC presents its current NZ series devices at IFA. However, the 4K and 8K models are not ready for demonstration, but are exhibited on small columns. JVC has dispensed with a home cinema this year to show its projectors to visitors. As news, the company offers a free update for the NZ models. The firmware version can soon be downloaded free of charge from the company website and installed via USB stick. It includes a filmmaker mode that fulfills the intention of the directors without further settings. This includes true-to-life 24 Hz playback, precise color space display and the deactivation of any image alienating tools. The goal: The viewer should watch movies at home exactly as the filmmakers intended, without having to make a single setting in the image menus. There is also a 25th Anniversary series under discussion. This is the flagship of JVC (DLA-NZ9), which will be available in a very limited edition for the anniversary exclusively in the colors white and silver. |

There's a big thread over on AVS on the subject- and it was the reason I replaced my VW50 after three years. I've had my current JVC going on nine, which supplanted my first JVC, bought in 2009 (from Mr. Zohn, actually), that I still use. |

Depends on the projector...with my last 4 projectors, 2 of them being 4k, I've had nothing to do except insert the disc.

Native 4K in 3D only exists in commercial movie theaters like Dolby Cinema and IMAX. Blu-ray 3D is a native 1080P format maximum. If 3D for the home became popular again then a new native 4K Blu-ray 3D format could be created (add it to the 8K Blu-ray format that might launch in 2026-2028 timeframe).
