I haven't done it yet. But in all my research a few months ago, it seems like you have about a 1 in 3 chance of lasting longer than a year, if you get one of the original lasers. There are plenty of the cheaper chinese replacement lasers, but who knows how good they are.

Had to buy my 3rd PS3 last night, BD drive seems to be on the fritz with my current one. Had a hell of a time trying to find a model other than the new super slim, finally ordered online the older 160gig barebones for $199.

Yes. Its just fine. Most people dont like how it looks and the fact that its a top loader. The thing functions perfectly and Ive had no issues with it since I got it back in Oct.

There does seem to be alot of people in general unhappy with the new design. I got mine BF & it's been in constant use. Streaming, Gaming, & ofcourse a TON of blu's. Absolutely no problems to report. I have been quite pleased with the system. At first I was put off by the top loading but now I gotta say I perfer it. The best part of it is the ability to put in or take out disc's without turning on the system. Anyway, my experience with the super slim has been nothing but positive.

I don't really care for the look of it... The top CD thing looks great I don't understand the hate... and yeah it's cool to take off a cd without turning on the console...

I'm on the other side of the fence: I think the older 'slim' PS3 looks much sleeker and find the 'eat-your-blu-ray' drive more novel than a top-loader.

Does the top-loader remind anyone else of the PS1 (or Dreamcast etc for that matter)?

No bc those flipped up and this slides out.

I'm also with the guy that doesn't care how it looks. The thing functions the same and at the end if the day, that's what matters

Have you ever considered replacing your bd drive yourself? My ultra cool fat model's bd drive died (way out of warranty), so I bought a new drive off of eBay and replaced it. Works fantastic now.

Yes it would work. Futureshop does not ship to the USA though, Amazon.ca will. I am sure the same one will be released in the US as well, I havent seen any other colours.

I'll probably end up getting it from a 3rd party seller on Amazon.com. Some people are selling the Wii Mini there, which is CA exclusive.

I've wanted a white ps3 for sooooooooooooo loooooooooong. Since the original phat days....

Sony needs to quit with the bundles already and release a less expensive standalone version

Would be nice. But $300 for 500gb & 1 yr. PS+ is a pretty good deal to me. Much better than $300 for just 320gb. Besides, this release is a limited edition set so the price would have been higher than normal anyway.

And Sony also made it official:

Jan. 27th if you want one.

Sony's released close to 10 different bundles featuring this new model in the US since its been released. $300 for 500gb and 1 yr Plus is nice but they've already have that in the while. Constantly releasing this thing with different games doesnt seem like a smart strategy. They need to unbundle the thing already for those who want a less expensive option and dont care for any of the stuff they throw into it. I dont get the rationale behind not having a standalone system at this point

Does anyone here used their old AV component adapters for the super slim model? I tried to use my older AV component cables from my older first gen PS3, and they do not fit in the back, despite the same composite AV cable that came with it fits in fine. They appear to be the same size, and I have no idea why the AV component cable can't fit into it.
