Thank you! I wish you, and everyone here, the exact same thing; like minds in action!

Of all the physical therapy (aka: torture) that I endure, disc exercise is definitely the most therapeutic.

Back to spoilers for some off topic elaboration...

[Show spoiler]It has been a tough few weeks. I was hospitalized over Halloween weekend due to very low blood pressure that caused me to have cardiac problems. I am still having trouble regulating my BP; it gets very low at times such as 76/42.

While there they ran a battery of tests and they found a bunch of other problems, so now I am under the care of a cardiologist, a gastroenterologist, a urologist, a neurologist, and a general surgeon. My holiday calendar is filled with doctor appointments, but I am so happy not to be facing another surgery especially at this time of year. I take my victories where I can find them.

I added it to my watchlist, too, where many other titles languish. If I keep hearing praise for it, I will be more likely to remember to give it a try.

I am thanks, although it’s still on my mind.

Nothing like a good war movie to lift one's spirits.

I don't know this title; is this it?

It looks very interesting; let us know what you think.

Unless you can speak Mandarin or read German you'll probably want one with English subtitles:

Yeah, it’s the Cine Asia version on the bottom right of Penguin’s post.

I didn't see the others because I simply searched for the title as you had typed it: "The 800."

Nice to know that it is available with English subtitles.

Interesting US streaming news:

Parks: Prime Video Tops Netflix in Paid U.S. Subscribers

Quote:
Amazon Prime Video, the ecommerce leader’s longstanding streaming video platform, has overtaken Netflix as the No. 1 subscription-based VOD service in the U.S., according to new data from Parks Associates. It marks the first time Netflix has not topped the Dallas-based firm’s annual chart of Top 10 SVOD services in the U.S. Additionally, Peacock entered the chart for the first time in 2022, while Showtime moved off the list.

If you click on the movie title on any Blu-ray page you'll go to the movie's page. If you then click on "releases" and then "Display all releases all countries" you can see every Blu-ray, DVD, and digital release for the movie in Blu-ray.com's database.

That, “The English” and “Thursday Night Football” probably has not hurt their appeal.

The English must be a joint Amazon/BBC production, we get it on broadcast and BBC IPlayer streaming service here. More interestingly, a Blu-ray is scheduled for late December so going to blind buy and skip it on catch up.

Vilya, don’t know why I have quoted you in this post, apologies.

“The English” is mostly dialogue TV in DD+ 5.1 but they should have showed a little more love than 192 Kbps for audio. The video is not bad, UHD at 15 Mbps. That is IIRC, not at home right now.

Confirmation by Lee Stewart in another thread.
there is a reason in the article you posted last weekend the Samsung rep called it a none-issue.

let me put it this way

a lot of the electricity used by the tv goes to create a lot of light, how much electricity will depend on technology (think of incandescent light bulb vs LED,
for an easy example) the size of the screen (why there are different limits for different TV sizes) and brightness (why they are looking at SDR and not HDR) so 8k or 4k is not an issue

some of the electricity can go to extras. speakers use electricity so does wi-fi.... again, no difference between 8k and 4k

some electricity can go to image processing. This one is tricky. if the input is 1080p both 4k and 8k TVs will need to upscale, if you have uhd content the 4k does not need extra resolution processing while the 8k does. But that is why the rule is not global and 8k was free of it until now the test will use an 8k input on an 8k device and 4k input on a 4k display. so this thing that could be an issue is not

lastly image creation. the only tech that needs more electricity for that is DLP (more mirrors to actuate) but there are no DLP Tvs. If an LCD/SXRD use pixel shifting to make higher fake resolution that too will use more poer but that too is restricted to projectors so not applicable.

It is easy to look at 8k and say 8=2x4 so it will need a lot more electricity and how will they ever do that. But that is just missing the forest for the trees.

That being said because 8k was exempt until this law comes into effect normal SDR was set at a higher Brightness setting for the same screen and so manufacturers will need to tweak the settings save new "normal SDR" settings and get the TVs tested to get official energy guide ratings. But it is not the insurmountable 8k is dead click bait it is portrayed as.

even if we assume there are some model (because of extra features or something) that could not make the cut. The law only applies to consumer grade TVs and not professional grade TVs. So the TV would still be able to be sold in Europe on the professional side. That could mean it can't be sold at Walmart but people that really want hi-end don't buy consumer grade at Walmart.

Ps you are no longer part of the EU so does this even affect you?
