Parallax looks pretty limited with that rig, for $21K. Must be somewhat restricted on what the optimal focal length would be, to enhance the 3D effect.

Closeup of someone's face is one thing; watching a car going around a racetrack is something different.

A better rig would use two cameras, mounted separately, and something to synchronize the images. But what do I know.

Yea wouldnt good 3D video have to be meticulously edited for what should be in the fore and background space?

I'd guess yes...no doubt, this thing is perfect at focusing each lens to match the other, but you need to widen the space between lenses for get the depth right. I have no idea how that's done with this unit, but the lenses look fixed in place. Electronically, maybe, somehow?

Good question.

Do your eyes move farther apart when looking at a larger background?

This is how you make a technology useful for the mainstream ($21,000 isn't exactly budget friendly, but much cheaper than most), this will give even independent filmmakers the opportunity to film in 3D, and you are going to see alot more independent projects planned in 3D. Thanks Cameron for leading a new future of movies .

Those lenses do look like Wall-E... But getting back to the point, I wonder what 3D Home Videos would be like. I assume the ones being recorded will reach at the camera every nth occasion to create 3D effects.
