thanks! not a bad price hah

(not the U.S. version, which is $$ everywhere, but whatever, same studio, pretty sure the disc is identical (even if the backup blu-ray is B, which it might not even be, my playback system is region free anyway) and this isn't something I'm gonna go crazy over the nasty Euro age ratings stuck all over)

I can imagine the picture quality being really nice. The film deserves another 4K UHD release with HDR.

actually it even comes with a digital code too, didn't think UK discs ever had those (not that I ever used them, just sell or give)

All of the Mission: Impossible films were recently on sale for Black Friday so they're probably all either low or out of stock everywhere.

Is Terminator 2 4k OOP? Seems to be increasingly difficult to find it in Canada at a reasonable price. Checking in the USA, WOWHD doesn't carry it anymore (they used to) and Sunrise records doesn't have it either. I was waiting for a deal but if it's OOP, I might just pull the trigger and buy it at full price before it goes OOP.

depends if you like movies to look like they were filmed on film, or look super-smooth and digital like 'modern' digital films
if you like the former (e.g. how it actually looked at the cinema) then get the older Blu-ray, however if you like remasters that make everything look smooth, grain-free and 'modern' looking then by all means go for the 4K
I have the 3D Blu as an amusement as its an interesting way of watching it, but won't touch the 4K as it currently stands

I understand. Diving a little deeper and looking at comparisons, it looks really smooth and all, but yeah, the DNR is aggressive. I might skip it. Do you know if it will ever get a re release, having a better transfer?

Specifically the 2015 release. It would be a shame if someone mistakenly bought the "Skynet Edition" thinking it was the more filmic-looking transfer

Anyone who posted that has no clue of what they’re talking about. It’s hideous.

2015 Blu-ray all the way.

Judging by the history of Cameron on disc I wouldn't put a lot of faith in it getting released again (or being a new master if it is). That said we eventually got the 2015 BD with grain/noise to replace the DNR'd BD before it, so who knows.

I don't know your preferences so I'll note here the 4k actually has way more detail (usually), so if that's your only concern you might prefer it to the 2015 BD. The 2015 BD is better in the sense of looking more like film (sorta) but the 4k is not (usually) a "DNR erases all the detail" kind of release, more a "DNR makes this look weird" release, if that makes any sense at all.

P.S. Welcome to physical media! It's usually not this complicated.

Still on the fence about this. I wouldn't mind getting it if it was cheaper, but 40$ CAD (with taxes) is a little expensive. I don't know, I'll think about it.

I know! I've never had this kind of dilemma with all of my other 4k copies! T2 is certainly the outlier lol.

If it's expensive I'd wait and see. It's only $12 here, and has been even lower before.

The Hurt Locker. It was only available in steelbook and a regular release seems unlikely.

Yep, it's a dated HD master, but at least it's not the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum edition like the hideous UHD:

Another useful/horrifying comparison between the 2015 BD and the UHD of T2:

I also saw this in the movie theater. (Minor spoiler) I remember early in the film when they go to the club the track “mine” is blasting…. At the theater I felt the bass and this entire sequence into the show is one of my favorite scenes of film… I was sorely disappointed with the Blu-ray as this song didn’t have nearly the same punch as the theater… However the 4K import audio is much more theater like!!!! Great film!!!
