This is our next nightmare, and it has yet to be addressed. I have two friends on tour now, and they are quite frankly puzzled on how to resolve the issue.

Sir Terrence, thank you for the reply! It was bothering me wondering about it.

Oh wow, that's something I never thought of. Are there any other spectrums that the transition might affect? I'm thinking along the lines of the myriad of wireless products constantly coming out, wireless speakers, wireless power transmission, wireless HDMI transfers, wireless this, wireless that. Is the range for all these wireless options in a single narrow band or more spread out? How much shielding will end up being required in the future because there's so many wireless signals all competing with each other that there's just chaos being caused between them all?

Default Does Blu-ray offer sound designers more options and freedom in their sound design?

Hi, I'm a student studying Digital Audio Production. I am enrolled in a class on current issues in mass media and was wondering if Blu-ray is going to offer more options and freedom to sound designers in their work for films, or does it just make their already good sound sound better? Any info you could give me on this subject would be a great help for my project. Thanks a lot.

Hi Sir Terrence,

Thanks for the reviews of the concert Blus, I spend more time watching concerts then anything else so I am always looking for more.

Any chance you will review the 10 Disk Niel Young Archive that is coming out?

I was also wondering if you knew just how many more special features are available on Blu-rays and if more movies will be coming out with specific audio special features on the sound design. Thanks for any info you can give me on this subject.

It seems the current push for Bluray is in the video department, not the audio department. I am sure when a 3D standard is established, they'll start working on extension to the audio codec to get a height channel arranged. I know at Disney we have a couple of stages that have height channels along with the current 7.1 standard.

Just so you understand. I am a reviewer here, have a home life, a fulltime job and various other activities going on. So that does not always allow me time to come here and answer each question the second a person writes it. I try and answer as quickly as my time will allow.

Consider most audio work recorded and mixed, and the infrastructure for film is still at 48khz sample rate, I cannot see how the Bluray format would degrade that any. The Bluray has all the resolution a sound designer needs to hear his or her work as clearly as possible.

Mark, not as of yet. I am still working on getting a definative answer. I keep getting conflicting information, which means nothing is set in stone right now.

Sir Terrence---when you have the opportunity, could you offer some comments on the restoration and remix for Pinocchio and the surviving elements with which the studio had to work? Sure do appreciate your time.

Hello Sir Terrence. I was let down by Disney last month when they released the 45th Anniversary edition of Mary Poppins only on dvd. Considering this is one of their most popular films, I was wondering if you know why the film was not released at the same time on blu-ray? As for my question on sound, do you know if they had done a remaster of the audio for the 45th anniversary edition, and did they use the music masters?
