I am curious to know how this looks and sounds. Be sure to post some thoughts on it when that bad boy arrives!

just a 2.0 stereo audio track and a so-so transfer. Cheap and dirty

Is this 1080p and/or region-free?

Received mine today, surprisingly. PQ looks pretty solid, judging by the first five minutes I checked out.

Well the running time on the case states 90 mins, but according to the disc it's closer to 26 mins. I'm not sure what this film's official runtime is, but could that point to a 1080i transfer?

1080i/50 will be displayed on your screen if it is, instead of 1080/24.

I believe you mean 86 minutes ...

Though it never got a theatrical release here in the U.S.A., "The Punisher" Region-1 (R-rated theatrical version) U.S. NTSC DVD runs 89 minutes and 3 seconds...so if the Dutch Blu ray is coming in at 86 minutes, then that would account (almost precisely) for the 4% PAL speed-up, and lead me to believe that this is a 1080/50i transfer, and therefore, not playable on Region-A equipment.

Please verify, thanks!

Ah yeah, I meant 86... I blame last night's ridiculously late The Hobbit screening.

Anyway, I'm having trouble finding the actual film's resolution (the main menu's 1080p), POSSIBLY due to my own personal technotarded reasons, but I had no problems getting this to work on a region A locked player (despite the case's ominous B only symbol).

hmmm...other than this being a PAL upconvert, or footage having been cut out (which I doubt is the case), I'm at a complete loss to explain why the running time of the Blu-ray would be 3 minutes shorter than the NTSC DVD.

Anyone?

It's a 1080i/50hz job, hence the PAL running speed.

PQ ranges from acceptable, to poor. Encoded in AVC.

Audio is standard Dolby 2.0.

Doesn't play on a US PS3 at all, for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the info Sky_Captain...looks like we'll have to hold out for the upcoming German release, of which the press release sounded impressive (hopefully it'll be region-free for us over here in America)...

I'd love to see an official Region-A release of this one, but not sure if and when we'll ever get it...I believe the Koch disc is scheduled for sometime in 2013...

Is this version cut a lot?
I would asume the cutting hand on boat and restaurant scene is heavily cut?

Nothing as of late...but looks like Norway will be getting a release soon...specs say 1080p, though I'm not sure whether that's confirmed or not:

Look at that cover-art (especially Dolph's head and hair) !!! The Punisher wearing sunglasses with his hair looking like he's fresh out of a Beverly Hills styling salon ???!!! Good lord, that may be the most embarrassing home-video artwork I've ever seen!!! Whoever green-lit that artwork should be fired immediately. How ridiculous...Perhaps it's to try and sell the film to today's younger generation (who seem to love soft, wimpy, and plastic looking superheroes ).

Yeah...considering he lives in the NYC sewers during the film, it certainly is .

If you listen carefully it's not even a stereo track, it's mono, just like the DVD was.
