At first people of TN need to sort out their CM and then the film industry can sort out Blu-rays.

Total disgrace, even bollywood movies like parched, not mainstream movies are released blu ray, amazon has a link to stream kabali, what a shock a movie with Rajni such a big hit , cash cow, and they choose not to release it, definately Tamil are not businessman, they are not astute, very bad decision. It is what it is, hopefully germans or french will release a dubbed version

Anyone know if Big Home Video will release this? There is another thread talking about this, but no update on that either.

I had an insightful discussion with 1 of the distributors here (Singapore) on the future of tamil blurays. Companies are paying good money for licensing to get a movie authored for dvds and bds; and after their release, pirates come into play and do mass duplication effectively killing all opportunities to recover their production costs (which is why the bds are priced as such). I do agree that pricing was also a huge factor in the demise of original tamil BDs.

All of this have effectively eliminated the tamil bluray releases and slowly eating into the dvd releases as well.

We’ve got no 1 to blame but the ‘thiruttu vcd’ pirates and their websites – some of us too for getting the easier way to watch/ procure the movies. I for one had to settle on a pirated Ayan Bd after trying to get an original AYNGARAN one for nearly 2 years. Finally, I managed to get a Singapore distributor’s last sealed copy thankfully 3 mths ago. Same goes for Yavarum Nalam Bd – got it from brother BRStar from here. And I gt my AYNGARAN Sivaji from Subbu years ago.

Soon, our only avenue for watching good quality tamil movies would be via legal websites (i.e tentkotta, herotalkies, etc) or via iTunes while the ‘loyal’ few will still rely on tamil rockers

It will be a miracle if this situation turns around. Lets keep out fingers crossed. )

I am still hoping for a Kabali and Kaththi release though.

And to Mr Shahran Sunny Audit, I am a big fan of your work.

Thank you.

One cannot wholly accept this reasoning. Piracy is not exclusive to Tamil films, it is a factor all language home video labels have to consider. But we see at least the DVD releases of most new films in the other languages. What is more possible is that the home video rights of Tamil films are priced so high, that sales have to be beyond ordinary expectations to recover the costs, which is also reflected in the higher pricing of the DVD/BD releases. Vicious circle. I'm glad channels like Netflix give an opportunity to catch some of the interesting new releases, although my preference would remain for a physical disc.

I agree on the non-exclusive impact on home video. I wonder why as well on the home video rights issue too. They (producers) rather let it to rot than share with home media companies. This unhealthy mindset is not new and has been around for ages. Will it ever change?

Till then, Netflix is the way to go 

Like you my friend, my preference have always been physical media.

Those who are acquiring the copyright of a movie, did not allow to produce either dvd nor bluray.

For example, if sun network acquires a move, they did not allow even in legal streaming website.

we have to watch only form their telecast. (bullshit #@^%$@ suntv)

I actually thought that Netflix could change a lot in this matter. Many movies are unknown, are not aiming for a wide audience so they will never get a release on a disc because it's not worth the afford.
But with Netflix you only have to put a file on a server and it's done. Everybody in the world is theoretically able to get access to it. Still, nothing is happening. Rights issues, rating issues. American's rating agencies are afraid of nudity, German rating agencies sometimes have problems with heavy violence and gore but are totally ok with nudity in movies. International standards are necessary.
