Portal 2 and Batman: Arkham city lead in the number of nominations, personally I think that Skyrim was unjustly treated in a number of cases (featured in the "best of 2011" category, but not in the "best of PC"? Also should have been in the "Best Graphics" category imo)

No Dark Souls?? WTF?

That said, I'm sure all of those games are deserving. But who can honestly say they've spent enough time with Zelda to make an informed decision? The game just came out a few days ago!

Ahh the VGAs, the biggest joke in the gaming industry. I am fairly sure no research is actually done in these nominations. They just slap the big releases into categories and be done with it. And then the winner is a popularity contest not a true analysis of its value. Not to say that the games nominated do not deserve it, but there seems be little rhyme or reason to how they pick the games in the categories.

I should have expected this before opening up this thread, but I wanted to see it for myself that there wouldn't be a single one I would be interested in.

Waited almost 2hours. Just to see the new trailer for metal gear rising. And, skyrim winning goty. Skyrim has more glitches/bug than all the games put together. Don't get me wrong. Skyrim is a great game. But,it's not goty.

I dont understand how Skyrim won GOTY, Portal 2 or Uncharted 3 would have been the better choice IMO. How does Skyrim win GOTY but doesnt win best Xbox 360 game or best PS3 game? I understand it really is a game that should be played on PC but GOTY that is not the best on either console is insane to me.

What I find insane is that Skyrim, game of the year, wasn't even -nominated- on the platform where it truly shines - the PC!

THIS is why the VGA 2011 was a disappointment.

The selection of Bethesda as studio of the year doesn't sit well with me. A studio should be evaluated on its entire body of work and releases within a calendar year. Yes, the nomination was based on Skyrim, but it was also responsible for Hunted: The Demon's Forge and Brink.

Honestly, I thought that Rocksteady should've won Studio of the Year. They did a phenomenal job with Arkham City and did more than a lot of fan service. Naughty Dog really didn't outdo themselves, and like them, Valve didn't really do anything special besides making TF2 free to play. I also see your point taken with Bethesda; Brink was a huge disappointment IMO.

I agree with this selection, I personally cant stand BF3. There are a lot more people playing CoD MW3 than there are playing BF3. While BF3 my be to your liking, I think MW3 appeals to more people.

Wait, you meant that MW3 should've won or BF3 should've won but you didn't like it?

So does McDonald's, but it has nothing to do with the quality of their burgers. For some people, fast and filling meets their criteria of what a meal should be, but alternatives are available to those who want more out of their eating experience. If I need a quick, itchy trigger finger fix, I turn to any of the MW games in my library, but if I want something more, Battlefield 3 fills that void.

I think he concurs with the VGA panel's selection of MW3 because i) it's more popular, and ii) he doesn't like BF3.

As someone who has played skyrim and nothing but skyrim for about 3 weeks now, i agree it should not have been nominated or won. Its another example of the sign of the times game, released in a rush to bank on the holidays with the expectation of the studio being we sell a bunch before people know just how broke it is, and we fix/FINISH it later. While they are in no way the only guilty party to do this recently, in fact there surrounded by many guilty parties of recent releases, i do think they should have been pulled from the running.

I fully agree with the mcdonalds example in terms of modern warfare 3, it changed nothing and really could be called a dlc pack on disc for a $60 price tag, and somehow the masses eat it up. That does not make it a great game, in fact in the shooter genre COD is very vanilla doing nothing original but banking by making it accessible to all types of gamers and making them feel like they have the ability to be good at a shooter with out devoting time as there is very little learning curve.

The only two games i agree with actually in these awards is portal 2, a great game and really fun multiplayer both online and splitscreen, and arkham city which managed to blow away its former incarnation in almost every regard, offering much more to gamers in almost every facet then asylum. \

Gears of war my favorite shooter of recent should also never have been in the running as this time around they changed a lot of what made them different admittedly as stated by cliffy B among others trying to gain some of those "casual COD players" resulting in what imo is cod's stale easy gameplay in a gears of war skin.

I do think that MW3 was the right choice here. BF3's campaign was terrible, the online is what made that game, while most people enjoyed the campaign in MW3 and online I think speaks for itself. While you may like your shooters more realistic, ie. BF3 it seems that most gamers like the arcade style of MW3 the game has made 1 BILLION DOLLARS!!

You obviously love games that are copy and paste jobs that have campfest multiplayer.
