If it's a shooter, then i would have to say first person perspective to aim better. If it's swordplay or other melee weapon then i would say third person to see your surroundings better.

I suck at FPS, don't know if it's the aiming, the stress, the speed ... so I dislike "false third person" like Gears of war, GRAW, The Club, Mass effect as it's FPS with a target in the center of the screen and part of your character appears on the right or left, thus obscuring part of the screen.
Diablo, Darkstone, Gauntlet, Untold legends are true 3rd person where you have to control your aim to the best and not look all the time at your target, thus not care about what's around on screen.

I prefer a third person view over first person, mainly because you see the character you are controlling. I like that.

I am not that into FPS games but I have given them a try this generation. My favorite FPS so far has been Resistance, Call of Duty 4 is okay. I prefer action/adventure games such as Uncharted, Prince of Persia, God of War and Assassins Creed.

I like both. Just depends on the gameplay. I don't think I would like COD4 as much if it was 3rd person. Socom you have the option of 3rd or first person. I can't stand playing in 1st person on Socom though.

1st person! 1st person! 1st person! The other day I played some Marvel Ultimate Alliance in 3rd and was like, WTF Mate? I can tolerate over the shoulder 1st person like in Force Unleashed but 3rd just outright sucks. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I feel better now.

I played Soldier of Fortune II online since 2002 and finally stopped in Dec. FPS for the win!

I like First person.

I also would like to add I liked the fact that MW2 gave you two options I thought that was pretty cool.

I prefer 3rd person. I also prefer a cover system that provides solid cover from fire rather than just hiding behind something to get out of view. I find 3rd person easier for me to aim and shoot effectively. First person is more disorienting for me.

I feel constricted in FPS. I love Warhawk's 3rd person view, and UnCharted. Perfect.

FPS used to leave me feeling quesy after a while (that floaty feeling) - although, they seem to have gotten better and ironed out the floating a bit more. I can play them now - but feel constricted by the view and have to turn a LOT more to check my surrounding, which just becomes more annoying than immersive.

3rd person - all the way.

3rd person. Obviously for games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta they have to be in 3rd person.

I like shooters but I prefer them in 3rd person. I feel too restricted in 1st person...plus I just suck at them lol.
