I recently played through The 7th Guest for the first time. It does not hold up.
But I kind of loved it! A product of its time that's difficult to review today. I remember when it came out, though, and the amazement surrounding it. I can handle the old school graphics fine, and the puzzles are a good mix. What doesn't work now is how horribly difficult it is to navigate your way through the game. Everything is painfully slow and repetitive. I understand that the 25th Anniversary Edition fixes this and updates the controls to more modern standards, and I think I would have enjoyed playing that version more.

The puzzles are often a bit too obtuse, so I appreciate a hint system being built into the game - but again, it's a long process to actually use that hint system. A couple of puzzles were just way too much for me to get my head around and I was thankful that I could skip them in the end. It's a classic game from my youth that I'm glad to have finally experienced.
