So you're getting a new tv this year? Very nice. If I was to scrap my projector and opt for a tv the Sony 75" 940E is at the top of my list. I know that's low rent compared to what you're used to. But will suffice for me... if I go that route.

Are you watching Blood Drive on Syfy? The second episode aired last night. It's an absolute riot. I recommend it.
Very cool! Really looking forward to watching it. And thanks for letting me know to stick around after the credits.

Definitely want to get a TV before years end. But the whole thing is finding the right one. The Sony 85" 85X850D has not received the best reviews from many owners. And being that it doesn't have Dolby Vision, or The 4K Extreme processing engine, that leaves it out of the running for me. It's too bad it isn't an 85" version of the 940E, as then it would be a no brainer for me. Full Array Local Dimming, with all the newest processing technology including the Extreme.

It's a bummer Sony didn't release an 85" version. Would have been one heck of a TV. I won't go for the 75" model only because it's too small. So that only leaves me with the 86" LG and the 82" Samsung.

No I haven't watched Blood Drive, just might check it out. Are you going to check out The Mist on Spike TV tonight?

Whassup amigo?

Are you dropping $20k on another tv? You sir, are my idol. The Sony 77" OLED is only $19,999. I'd love to get the Z9D. But not paying what they want. The 940E is almost as good and it's a few grand cheaper. Actually I wouldn't mind if Epson came out with a true 4K projector. I'm done paying big money on JVCs. I chalk it up to getting old and surly. And with having kids I gotta take out a loan just to keep the fridge stocked. Lol

I'm gonna pass on the Mist. The previews didn't do it for me.

I may still check out The Mist, at least watch the first episode. Then I'll at least know if it's worth watching.

Nah, never gonna spend anything over $15,000 for a TV. And even $15,000 is a bit of a stretch. If Sony released an 85" 4K LCD with FALD and the X1 Extreme chip for say $12,000, I'd be all over that.

Yes, the Z9D is one heck of a TV, and I'd gladly go for that if it we're only only over 80". Oh well.

Right now my only choices are really the Sony 85" X850D, and the LG 86" 86SJ9570. There is a store in my state that has both on display, but it's a 2 hour drive from where I live. May make a trip next weekend to check them out in person. I may even check out the 75" 940E while I'm there just to see how good it is.

No, just thinking out loud. I'm still slumming it with 1080p.

Let me know what you think of the Mist. Even tho I'll never watch it. Tonight is Dark Matter. I dig that show. Killjoys returns in two weeks and season 2 of Preacher airs this Sunday. That's some quality television right there.

Who needs an 80" set when Sony makes the Z9D in a whopping 100". You know that will look outstanding in the Zeph HT.

That 86" LG looks pretty good too. But it ain't no 100" Z9D.

A road trip to your local a/v dealer sounds like a good time. Make sure to take plenty o' pics.

Well, after reading numerous owner reviews on both the LG 86" and the 85" Sony, I have decided to just hold off. Too many issues with these new TV's. So I will just have to force myself to wait and see what is announced at CES in January. It's too bad as I was so looking forward to a new TV this year.

Hopefully Sony will announce that they will release an 85" version of the 940E at a not too astronomical price point (say $12,000). All I can do is wait and see. Oh yeah, I can definitely see a 100" TV in my HT room. But at a $60,0000 price, I don't think so. Heck, for a lot less than that I can get a top end Sony 4K projector and a 120" Stewart Filmscreen.

Yes, I will definitely let you know what I think of The Mist. I remember the theatrical movie version not being very good, so I'm not holding my breath that this TV adaptation will be much, if any, better.

I started to watch Killjoys but just couldn't really get into it. I LOVE Dark Matter! Great show! I have never seen Preacher, will need to check it out.

That's too bad none of the 80"+ tv's made the cut. But with the HDFury you're golden. No need to rush.

I'm the opposite regarding the Mist movie. I liked it and that ending kicks you right smack in the Jimmy.

Killjoys is a hoot. Love the one-two punch of Dark Matters and Killjoys. The S2 premiere of Preacher was nuts. Great show with a great cast. And the S1 finale was one of the best finales in recent memory.

Other than that, what's new?

I thought it was a great episode to kick off S2. I think I'll stick my kids in a covered cage next time they're on instaface. The Saint of Killers looks to be a formable adversary, and dayum, that Tulip is sassy. Didn't realize Dominic and Ruth were a couple off the screen. Very cool.

Hey Wabo! Hope you had a fun 4th!

Yeah, I was really bummed that there weren't any really awesome 85" TV's this year. If there were I'd be enjoying it right now. But like you said, my current 84" LG is fine with the HDFury. So I have no HDR, no Dolby Vision HDR, and no fancy Web OS menu system, my 84" is still one amazing TV with phenomenal PQ. So I can wait until next year to see what's offered.

I did get a new TV, but for the bedroom setup. I got an LG C6P OLED. Bought it on Monday and it should be delivered later this week. I was originally going to get an LG 65UH8500, but when I went to buy they were all sold out. And being that 3D TV's are no longer being made, I wanted to have another 3D capable TV while I still could buy one. So since I could not buy what I originally wanted, I figured that my only other option was to go with an OLED.

The LG C6P (like the B6P) is a very highly rated OLED TV. In a way this will be a really good thing. This way I get to try out OLED with movies, streaming, and gaming (Xbox One, PS4 Pro). If the technology proves to be solid and reliable within a year and really wows me, I may get a 77" OLED for the HT. The loss of 7" of screen size will sting a bit, but I'm willing to sacrifice that to get the best PQ possible. We will see.

Still haven't had a chance to watch The Mist TV show, so I can't say if it's worth watching. I still plan to at some point soon. It'll probably suck, but we'll see. I am really looking forward to Game of Thrones.

My 4th was pretty good. How was yours? You grill up any masterpieces?

Ha! So you did get a new tv this year. I knew it was only a matter of time.

Wow! That's a pretty fancy tv for the bedroom. We still have a Sony CRT in our bedroom. Although it doesn't get much use. We use our bedroom for ... sleep. Raising a family sleep is a precious commodity. You always wish you had more.

Since I live vicariously thru you, amigo, you'll have to let me know how the OLED is. I'm sure it will be fantastic.

Yeah, GoT is the best show on tv right now. S7 should be off da hook.

Yes, season 7 of GoT is gonna be awesome! Do you watch Zoo? Season 3 has been really good so far. My 4th was nice, had some Brisket and some smoked turkey, also made some gourmet burgers.

Yeah, it's a pretty fancy TV for a bedroom. But when I've had a long day, and just feel like enjoying a racing game, or streaming a TV show I wanted something nice. From what I've read from numerous pro reviews, this set is off the hook good! Apparently it uses the same video chip set as their top end signature line. And being that it is supposed to have some jaw dropping 3D as well is nice.

I'm expecting great things from this TV, so I hope it lives up to the hype. If it proves to really amaze, and is relatively issue free after a year of use, I may just go the 77" OLED route for the HT setup.

Watched the Castlevania series last night. I enjoyed them and was scratching my head why there were only four episodes. When the fourth episode ended I was like nooo, I need more episodes.
