No-one's gonna be doing HDR10+ re-releases on disc just as no-one's been doing any Dolby Vision re-releases on disc, the market just isn't there to support such a quick double dip on such a large scale especially from a studio as reticent to put out catalogue product as Fox.

Any HDR10+ "upgrades" to content will probably be delivered via streaming platforms, not physical disc. Newer disc releases will likely be issued with HDR10+ as and when the new standard is ratified by the BDA and it is incorporated into the actual playback hardware. Again, one would assume that Samsung and Panasonic will announce such players at CES.

But doesn't the number of physical 4K releases far outnumber digital 4K releases?

That is a topic for a different thread, but yeah, we're all concerned that the mass population streaming content will wipe out disc buyers.

I don't want to be stuck with being forced to buy movies digitally and never physically, but if radio and TV can still co-exist with one another, there's no reason digital and physical movies can't, right?

According to this list:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...6&postcount=61

iTunes alone has over 300 UHD titles. I don't know how many UHD BDs there are, but I doubt that they far outnumber that amount. iTunes has far more Dolby Vision titles ...

Without links to those quotes, it looks like you are back to your old ways of just making stuff up.

I'm a bit confused with Warner Brothers. Last year they announced support for Dolby Vision, yet not one title has dropped! This year, it's HDR 10+?

Does this mean Warner is dropping commitment to DV?

That's merely supposition on your part. Please reveal the press release from Disney...

The format war BS on this forum is getting tiring. Dolby Vision is technically superior (by a tiny TINY bit), but DV is proprietary and HDR10+ is not. Get over it! I am sure both will exist just fine, although I prefer open standards.

As far as I'm concerned, the word you are looking for is 'skepticism.'

Which is spot on, because until you can buy a HDR10+ disc or see a film mastered in HDR10+ in a theater, I'm skeptical.

That sucks. Wild desperately needs an upgrade. Probably the worst looking UHD film available.

Will be interesting to see for sure. If Disney remains behind Dolby Vision, HDR10+ is sure to lose Fox once the deal goes through. If they swing behind HDR10+ it could be a big boost and a major loss for DV.

WB does not surprise me as they were one of the few that put movies out on both Blu and HD-DVD. Disney though can have a major impact to persuade others to jump onboard. As far as Disney discs not supporting DV on disc, they released a whopping total of 3. Sure it may have been expected to have DV but surely not a sign they are not ever going to release a DV disc.

DV has a major head start, support from more studios and manufacturers, and may also have a big year with more DV capable UHD players at lower price points coming along with more discs. Hopefully they can co-exist, worst case if HDR10+ wins then hopefully some DV capable displays and players can be firmware upgraded to support HDR10+. However with Samsung being the only HDR10+ player in the US for TV's and players they have a long road ahead. It's not like Amazon dropped support for DV in favor of HDR10+ so you get both, will also be interesting to see what Netflix does as well. Like wise WB was supposed to support DV on disc as well, so granted they announced support for HDR10+ there is no indication they are dropping support for DV in favor of.

CES should be interesting as well to see if any other manufacturer's jump behind HDR10+ or a better idea of where everyone currently stands, otherwise I don't think we will see much change in 2018. The 3 major players in HDR10+ were the only ones to never announce support for DV with one of them potentially up in the air if Samsung cannot persuade Disney to jump onboard. The other 2 historically support multiple formats anyway, 1 being streaming thus easier to implement and the other, WB, is one to never really choose a side lol. Lets just hope we never get 2 versions of the same film if they cannot coexist on the same disc.

I sense streaming will offer both HDR+ and DV. I sense Fox will be HDR+ on disc, maybe some other studios, while DV will be on other studio's discs!

I don't think you'll see a disc authored with HDR+ and DV!

Are there currently any screenshot/video comparisons of HDR10+ and DV streaming?

You know how the high end Sony 2017 TVs with the X1 processors are going to be updated to be Dolby Vision compatible? Is there any chance they can also be updated to be HDR10+ compatible?

Oh, some Sony tvs must have the potential for that, provided Sony comes on board. I hope CES 2018 still has many big announcements for HDR10+, including a big Sony announcement. Maybe Disney will announce support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Maybe Microsoft will get into the mix. I'm excited to find out about any other HDR announcements actually. HDMI 2.1 is launching in 2019 tv/UHD blu-ray models, so things might change again next year.

It’s all of this continued hyper-development why we’ve got a lack of disc releases. You’ve got to pick a freakin standard and stick with it if you’re pressing physical media.
The content creation, manufacturing, distribution, sale and consumption of physical media is a big process and when the industry keeps changing crap every 6-12 months, people just start backing off and we enthusiasts / early adopters become more and more niche.
I’m all about keeping tech rolling for improvements, but this HDR flux thing is not helping physical media releases.
Between this and E-ARC next year, I’m not convinced disc is ever going to catch up to streaming. Hope I’m wrong. We’ve witnessed a massive decline in quality before our own eyes and everybody accepts it with applause - the mp3, loudness wars, compression etc.
The consumption model is changing and the content deliverers are following the green...
The price of convenience and ‘good enough.’
