It's taken them a year (and counting) to integrate DV into the X1E platform, by all accounts it's been rather tricky. Adding HDR10+ on top of that probably wouldn't be anything like as difficult on paper because it doesn't have to include a golden reference for the display, nor does it need the horsepower required by the Dolby 'engine' to decode and rebuild the 12-bit image from the enhancement data. Like static HDR10 there's no set method for a TV to decode the 10+ metadata, each manufacturer can do what they like.

BUT I'd be surprised if it got added to the X1E models precisely because the DV alterations have been so awkward, i.e. making any more large scale alterations to the software might add more problems than they solve. We've gotta see how the DV update performs in the real world first, if it's stable enough then who knows? It'd be awesome if it happened though.

I guess nobody noticed, but BDA has added HDR10+ to the official spec now, and they're making a formal announcement tomorrow. Discs with HDR10+ are 100% coming in 2018, from Fox and Warner Bros. at least.

Good find! Everyone with a brain knew this would happen. I know you've been calling it for a while.

Perhaps I recall incorrectly, but I'm sure it was widely touted over the last 6 months that in order to have HDR10+ one needed HDMI 2.1! Was that incorrect? It would seem so given the recent product press releases.

It used to be thought HDMI 2.1 would be needed for HDR10+, but no, it works via HDMI 2.0, Maybe "Philips HDR" will still launch next year with HDMI 2.1 products.

This isn't good. Even if HDR-10+ was superior to DV, which it isn't, either way more consumer confusion is bad. We could afford a format war in 2006 when streaming wasn't a thing, but a format war within a format isn't just even more confusing, it's coming at a time when physical media isn't dominant anymore. This is my biggest concern with HDR-10+, and since DV isn't going away anytime soon, this is very worrying.

In Samsung's HDR10+ display they had this clip of Wonder Woman, look at the disclaimer underneath:

"Coming soon in 4K Ultra HD with HDR10+"

Place your bets now as to whether that'll be a physical disc re-release (no mention of the magic word, Blu-ray) or simply an updated streaming version...

I have six more days to decide whether or not to return or exchange my Black Friday TV to Best Buy, the Sony 900e. Was really hoping that there would be some more details on HDR10+ this week since it seems very likely to be more of an industry standard than DV.

It would be kind of shame to buy a TV right now that does neither Dolby Vision nor HDR10+.... even though the value was exceptional.

I'd say streaming.

It's relatively easy to "reissue" a UHD title that way. The disc market is just to tiny to justify the cost. Fox didn't even reissue the first Kingsman movie despite having a home Dolby Atmos mix & encode ready.

I would agree with Peter here, 'Coming In' sounds to me like streaming. 'Coming On' would imply a disc release. Just my 10c

'Fox' deserves a hard slap to the face over this

Me three, I said the below not two days ago but after seeing that pic I just wanted to throw it out there

Any HDR10+ "upgrades" to content will probably be delivered via streaming platforms, not physical disc. Newer disc releases will likely be issued with HDR10+ as and when the new standard is ratified by the BDA and it is incorporated into the actual playback hardware. Again, one would assume that Samsung and Panasonic will announce such players at CES.

Wonder Woman, BvS, and HP all look pretty darn good in Dolby Vision too.

Yes, but now that it's in HDR10+, this will be the best the movie has ever looked.

Looking forward to it!

Shill? Everything I've said about HDR10+ has come to fruition. It's not my fault that I've got such an excellent grasp of technological trends.

Amazon Germany has just put up a listing of Wonder Woman 4K UHD Remastered. Can it be that one?
