Have no idea what’s going on with this game or how the deal works between MS and Nintendo but we’ve seen the leaked gameplay from a version what was supposed to have been released on Xbox One but never turned up.

Now people have started earning achievements from the game. There’s even a list available

Is this supposed to be a remake, or a straight port of the N64 classic?

I think until Halo came out, this was my favorite local multiplayer console game.

Nobody knows. The one that was supposed to come out on XBL previously had a graphics toggle for original N64 graphics or remake graphics in real time. It's been rumored Switch would get the original on Nintendo Online as well as the remake being a retail release (as well as MS, SONY and PC also getting the remake obviously) but if they go the route with switching graphics on the fly and Switch being able to handle it I don't see the point to having BOTH games available.

The Switch could easily handle the Xbox 360 remaster of Banjo-Kazooie, but instead there's just the N64 version under emulation. So it's not without precedent for something like that to happen, it just depends on what Microsoft decides to do.

As @dyne mentioned, the game will be added to Rare Replay so that is how you can buy it.

Yes, if you already have Rare Replay, the game will be available to you when it is released. I don't think the release date was announced, but there is a James Bond day on October 5th celebrating the 60th anniversary, so maybe around that time is when the game will be released. From Xbox Wire:

GoldenEye 007 will be made available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as part of Xbox Game Pass. Additionally, players who own a digital copy of Rare Replay, the 30-game compilation of classics from the award-winning studio behind GoldenEye 007’s original release, will be able to download and enjoy the game free of charge.

Even though the Xbox version doesn’t have online multiplayer it still retains local split screen for 4 players like the original so I guess that’s something.
