Funny you mention this. I had checked this before and it told me there was no update. However, I kept thinking that this was probably the issue and checked again. This time it told me there was an update, so 30 mins later, I was good to go. Thanks for your help!

Default AVR 3313ci

I am shopping for a new AVR and looking at the Denon 3313ci or the Marantz SR6007. Does anyone have the Denon and like the sound?

I have the Denon 3313Ci and it sounds great! I had the 3308Ci before this and it also was a great receiver. I only upgraded because I needed 3D pass-through for my new projector. The Odyssey sound set-up also made it a breeze to set-up! This thing packs a lot of power!!

Hey everybody I just upgraded from a sony to a denon receiver and its great. I got the avr-1913, although I haven't seen anything on this site about that particular receiver just the 1912. Any way it sounds so good im so glad I got it. I was having a little trouble with the audio from my blu ray player but i just set it so the receiver decodes everything. Now its DTS MA all the way. If anyone is on the fence about getting a denon over something else get the denon.

The 2313 had "High Current/Discrete Amplifiers", but the 3312 did not. Also, the 3312 had AL24 Processing for the front L & R channels and DDSC (Dynamic Discrete Sound Circuit), while the 2313 did not.

Are these things I should even be concerned about? I would assume having all the features I listed would be great, but I'd have to go up to the 3313, and that is a bit too rich for me right now.
What you are saying the 2312 has more power then the 3312?
I hope not I put down extra cash on a 3313 for the extra power.

That sounds great. I wanted a receiver that is powerful. I like the marantz look but I keep reading it has a warm sound and it is better for music. I play about 75/25 movies.

I just bought my 1913 this weekend. I have yet to throw over my ethernet cord to it but will probably soon. I want to test out the DLNA function even though Its already connected to my htpc with a 30 foot HDMI.

Dunno. I came home for lunch and turned it on and it said there was an update. It took about thirty minutes....just as long as the first one. I tried to find the information on it form the Denon website, but didn't find anything over my rushed lunch.

Anybody have Monitor Audio hooked up to your Denon? I demo'd some BX2's today and thought they sounded pretty sweet.

Default tx-nr818 hdmi issues

Good day everyone ,

I have an issue that i cannot resolve.

Until recently i had an Onkyo TX-NR709 to which i connected my oppo BDP-93. My display device is an Optoma HD20 connected to the main ou of the Onkyo. It often had problem handshaking hdmi on startup either falling back to analog or having to resync multiple times before locking in the signal .

But the strangest problem was if i wanted to play cd on the oppo. In order to be able to lock in the hdmi signal i had to change the Onkyo output to main sub . Never could figure out why

Anyhow yesterday i bought an Onkyo TX-NR818 and i am experiencing the sale issues when trying to listen to audio cd. If i leave the onkyo on main out with the projector off it tries to lock in the hdmi signal but keeps retrying again and again without any success. If i shut down the Onkyo and power it up again it is able to lock in the hdmi but display no signal unless i switch back the main out to sub on the Onkyo

So i am telling myself that if i am getting the same issues on 2 diffrent Onkyo model there must something i am not configuring properly

If someone is experiening the same issues and was able to resolve it i would appreciate any help

Thank you

Alain

I can fully agree with the power comment. I just bought an AVR-3312CI (very similar) to replace my Pioneer VSX-921-K that I was temporarily using (and had intended only a stereo setup at first). The Denon drives my speakers much better. I usually chalk up comments like "more clarity" to audiophile snake-oil, but honestly there is more clarity when your speakers are properly driven and the Denon AVR-331xCI receiver line can do that.

I've also always appreciated Denon giving the 20Hz to 20Khz power rating instead of the marketing scam of rather useless 1KHz ratings.

Mine is a AVR988 and recently the front left and right speakers were blowing their fuses, but when I connected the same speakers to the other set of front surround terminals, everything was fine, but I still thought it best to bring it to a authorized Denon repair centre.
The repair guy did a firmware update to the processor (not a factory reset) and told me that the front surrounds were muted and there was nothing wrong with the AVR.
Question is how can just the front surround channel be muted on it's own and how did it get that way ?
I spent all morning trying to figure this out and the only that I could come up with is that the channels were turned down to the -12 dB mark, but even then I still should have heard something out of the front speakers and there was nothing.
I connected everything up and all works as it should.
I must be missing something here or is there a way to mute specific channels, and really, why would some one even want to do that ?
Any explanation ?
Thanks
It appears that my problem was the DTS Bomb, but it's too early to tell, how ever the firmware update looks hopeful.
For anyone who is experiencing the same thing I would go here and contact jdsmoothie for any firmware updates concerning Denon. Be sure and give him your model number.

Posts 3478 and 2013, respectively.

The instructions are quite clear on how to do this if your AVR has a serial port that's used to update the firmware. If yours is older with no serial port, then Denon will have to update it.
Also know that even of it's out of warranty, the update is covered, but you will have to pay for any shipping.

Default AVR-791 & Definitive Technology

I currently have the Denon AVR-791 and Im currently in the market for new speakers. Im looking into getting either Def Tech's BP-8060 or the BP-8040. My question is, will I be able to run these speakers and get some decent, if not great sound quality out of them with my AVR-791? I will be doing a 3.0 (no sub since the BP's have them built-in) set-up for the mean time with either Def Tech center that compliments these particular floorstanders. Thank you in advance!

Your Denon's 90 watts won't have any problem driving those speakers as they are quite efficient. (I checked the specs). I have a Denon 988 driving Magnepans all around with no problem and even though mine puts out 110 watts, the Maggie's are very inefficient, so the ones you're looking at will be alright.
You're almost in the wrong forum here, you need to find a forum/threads/reviews specific to those speakers you looking at, eg.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1340769/de...nal-subwoofers.

Speakers are a very personal thing, there are many variables involved like room size, how live the room is, speaker placement, what levels you listen at etc. Some of these thing can't be answered on a forum. You can look at specs and what others think, but in the end you need to listen to them.
You're out in the sticks in Alaska so if you buy from Crutchfield and if they don't meet your needs they have a 60 day return policy.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-6oUzlX7...ive Technology

Definitive owners thread, all 961 pages of it _ have fun.
